I have tried using chrome and IE to access http://192.168.0.1 each time I do, i get in. Then when I click on say, "advanced" or "settings" sometimes it will go to the next menu, other times it will bring me back to the log in screen, as if it timed out or reset itself. I'm using DIR-655"B1" with firmware 2.00. I was on the phone with the tech support and was not satisfied, they had me first undo my CD installation and do a manual install. Which, when I did yesterday gave me about 45 second between restarts. Now I have maybe 15-10 second between restarts.

Now, at NO time do I lose internet access. I am constantly connected, but i cannot manage my settings.

 I need to achieve some port forwarding or a DMZ for my Xbox, but i cant stay logged into the utility long enough to even find which page in the utility holds those settings, and when I do, by the time I click save settings, it goes right back to the log in screen, or gives me "IE cannot display Page" and then goes back to the log in page.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

I use IE8's compatibility view on the router's setup pages and they render much quicker than when in regular view.

I use Firefox with no issues viewing the router

i have tried firefox as well, I dont believe its a browser issue.... It's not "resetting" because its not dropping connection to the net, but it IS logging me out of the config utility after about 10-20 seconds.

If you can get to the tools > admin page before timing out try to view the page without a style then change the timeout to a higher value.

In IE just go to View > Style > No Style

I also want to extend the timeout period on my DIR-655, B1, 2.00NA.  But I can't find the line on the admin page "Inactivity Time Out", even with the IE style changed to no style.  Does this router have that menu choice?

I'm with charlie95722 - I have the DIR-655 B1 with 2.01NA firmware installed, and there is no such option on the admin page under the tools menu, just above the "Enable Graphical Authentication" option, even with the view style set to none.  Was this removed in version B1 routers?

I had/have the same issues as the original poster.  I even once had it where I hardly had time to click on a new selection before being presented with the login screen again.  Later it seemed to be back to its regular behavior, timing out every couple minutes.

What happens if you try a different browser? Opera, FF, or Flock?

I don't have another browser installed on any of my machines.  IE8 has always served all my needs, but if it is perhaps blocking the display of all options in the router, I may have found my first flaw!

I wanted to attach a PDF or graphical image of my admin page to illustrate my description, but either the forum cannot accommodate this type of upload or I just haven't found it.

I just got new Inspiron laptop with Mcafee antivirus preinstalled and it behaved the same way. I did not bother to try setting change in Mcafee, uninstalled Mcafee and problem solved. I don't know if other antivirus interferes but Microsoft security essential is O.K.

Which problem did it solve - the fast time out, or the lack of a setting to change the inactivity timer in the router?

I have McAfee on one computer and Symantec Endpoint Protection on all my others and the router firmware exhibits the same premature timeout behavior from all computers using IE8.

The manual available at ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dir655/Manual/dir655_manual_150.zip seems to predate the availability of a revision B router, yet on page 49 of the manual, there is no inactivity timeout option.  Was the option hidden purposely by D-Link, only to be revealed by turning off IE's view style?

Interestingly, on page 43 of the manual (the WISH settings), there is an "automatic" setting that my revision B1 router with 2.01NA firmware seems to also lack.  From the description, this setting is important to differentiate streaming video from other "bulk download" file types.  I'm curious why D-Link decided to remove this...

Uninstall Mcafee solved fast time out issue. Maybe there is a setting in their firewall to correct this but I am not familiar with either of them, possibly assign router IP as trusted site?.
