I tried searching to see if this has been addressed so I apologize if I missed it. I had six DCS-920 cameras around my house and two weeks ago the house burned down. The computer I was using to record the files conveniently got hosed down by the firemen so it is toast. The good news is I had all the files going directly to an external drive that was hidden from the water and still works. What I am trying and need to do is access the video for the time leading up to the fire so I can see what happened. I have another computer and downloaded the latest software but I cannot figure out how to access the video files. It keeps telling me to connect a camera. Without buying more I cannot do that as they are gone now. Can anyone explain how to view the video?

You must try to access to your external storage directly. Brand and model?? look for the manual, and look how to access it via network, so if the system was correctly configured, you can access the footage in it directly.

I can access the hard drive with no problem. The software I downloaded (D-ViewCam) looks newer than what I had and when I try to access the old files, it gives me an error for not selecting a camera. Obviously I do not have a camera connected and really do not want to buy a camera just to view the files. If that is the only answer then I will. I was hoping someone could briefly explain how to view it in D-ViewCam.
