DNS 323 Help

Hello everyone I have a few various questions and issues about my recently purchased DNS323.
I understand the WD Green EARS 2TB isn't supported but that is the configuration I currently have in the budget and I'm running FW 1.09. I'm willing to learn and make everything work.

The first question I have is I cant get the email setup working it always replies back as failed? (tired multiple accounts)
The second question is my hard drive never spins down and it is running very hot anywhere between 40 to 45C? Even though all my devices are powered off. (ps3,xbox, print queue is clear, computers etc.)
Last question I swear... my data transfers are really slow is that because of the 4K sectors is there a jumper setting I can change or a format method I'm running in standard mode with one hard drive.

Any help or links or comments would greatly appreciated. Thank You for your time. Looking forward from hearing from everyone.

Hi Andrew

You might want to try a factory reset first of all if you are having problems with your NAS. Then manually configure the device (do not restore a configuration backup). This sometimes helps with strange issues. You shouldn't loose your data in doing so - but as always a backup is a good idea.

If your drive(s) still do not spin down, double check the power management settings in the NAS's web interface. I'm assuming that you are not running any third party modifications on the NAS or that downloads/torrents are scheduled? This would keep the drive awake.

Not sure about the temperature now, seems high for an "ECO" drive.
 
Regarding speed, how are you connected to your NAS and what speeds are you seeing? It's been written a few times that these boxes aren't very fast. There are a few speed tests posted on this forum.

Not sure about the email. Assuming that the domain, ports and credentials are set correctly, I can only guess that your mail server requires something that your NAS isn't providing, such as secure authentication.
