Is it possible to play MP3 stored on the DNS323 via a Playstation 3? I have 2 DNS323 units on my home network. 1 is set up as 2 separate standard drives the other is set up as RAID 1. Both have 1.5 TB drives. Both have firmware 1.09. I have checked the "Enable UPnP AV Server" box but am not sure if the ROOT button should or should not be checked.
However, when I attempt to view my Music folder (which is a backup) via the PS3 on any of the drives I get the following error:

"A DLNA error has occurred (2006)"

I am able to access my Music folder on my PC via the PS3....
Any recommendations?

I should add I just tried accessing my standard drives on the DNS323 and was able to get into the Music folder and into (for example) my Aerosmith folder and each album but then it says "No Tracks"....

This sounds familiar.

I allways figured it's got something to do with timeouts. In my experience, the larger the collection of shared files, the more often it happens.

An incorrect "no files found" also occurs if your files are located too deep in the folder structure. I cound'nt acces my photos for that reasen.

Finally, I settled at using PR3MediaServer on one of my PC's. It does the trick and more. Great program. Only too bad that I have to leave the PC on. But then again, that's better than running into unexpected errors every few files.

the problem is the upnp av server.

Disable it, and install ushare or Twonky.

Can anyone explain exactly what the upnp server is in laymans terms??

My problem isn't with accessing my files stored on my PC via my PS3, but how to access the files on the DNS323 (even with computer turned off) using the PS3. I don't know that any program install would work to help with that.

i actually think the problem is on the ps3 side. i had a problem playing mp3-s back from my buffalo linkstation live, so i turned off it's own media server (some kind of mediatomb clone, i guess) and installed twonky. it didn't get much better. then i read that ps3 needs to see specific media files in specific folders (music in /media/music/, photos in /media/pictures and video in /media/video) and i tried that. it worked for some files and for some it didn't. i guess the proper dlna support got shot to cr@p with some newer ps3 firmware. i never really tried to use ps3 as mp3 player when i got dns-323 because my wdtv live has no problems playing mp3-s and flac-s from my dns-323 whatsoever. add the mkv support that is coming to ps3, hmm, let me see, like, NEVER and the ps3 is again reduced back to its blu-ray playing game console status. which i find is quite enough

I had the same problem as you before, errors constantly.

First, I installed uShare on my dns-323. It worked, but not as I would.

Subsequently, I installed Twonky for DNS-323 works perfectly. I am glad that for now, but I would do the streming MKV.

How can I install a program such as those referenced on the DNS323 when it is not a PC? Again, I don't want my PC even in the loop in fact it may be powered off which is the reason I want to be able to access the DNS323 with the PS3.
So, I'm a bit baffled here what a program installation would accomplish. I will be honest and say I don't understand anything about hacks of the DNS323 or Linux or anything other than opening folders on the DNS323 and accessing what is inside them.
Any help here on just accessing the DNS323 box over the network with the PS3 to play MP3s in a folder titled MUSIC? I don't want to take a class on programming to have to modify something on the unit....

streaming mkv with twonky from dns-323 to ps3 is not worth the hassle, because it means that mkv file has to be transcoded and dns-323 just does not have enough horsepower for that.

MP3 playback worked when I tried, except that no ID3 tags were displayed on the PS3 when the files were stored on the DNS-323 (when playing files from my PC's Music folder, ID3s were displayed perfectly).

Nobody here knew why, so I ended giving up on it.

Well, firstly, i was like you when i first purchase my DNS-323 last year... till i was really cant take it anymore with its limited feature n so on... I dont hv Linux/Unix or programming knowledge either. The built-in multimedia streaming inside it, is actually not really at what i want (trying not to use sarcastic word on it though)... So i dig forums as above link mention for Fonz_FunPlug and then install Twonky and purchase its decent license.. So now, even my Primary school kid is able to watch his pokemon movie from it by PS3 streaming.

My advice to you, try to call DLINK helpdesk, since your DNS-323 seems still an original built or try my way

You can get problems with the PS3 and the built in UPnP AV server if you have "special characters" in the folder or file names - I've had to remove ' from folder names to get the PS3 to read them.

I've also had problems if there are too many files and folders.
