UPnP AV 'genre' list is deficient
« on: July 30, 2008, 03:38:26 PM »

I have created many specific genres in Windows media player. (Such as Barbershop, Nature music, Instrumental, ...) The DNS-323 seems to have a fixed notion of what might be a genre and anything which does not fall into its small set of possibilities is relegated to "other".

It really should take the genre list from the information is the music files.

From what I can tell, the built in UPnP server only recognizes genres that are part of the ID3v1 standard (see http://www.sharpmp3.com/id3explained.html for a list).  I say this because it does not recognize genres I've created like 'Christmas' but does recognize 'New Age' and 'Lo-Fi'.

I used Mediamonkey to reorganize my music collection into folders by Genre and then by album name, which  works OK but seems so 1999.  I'm thinking of installing Twonky which I'm sure handles this better.
