I just received a new DGL-4500 router. I was replacing an older DIR-655 router that I was having issues with as well.
On the new router, the Ethernet ports work fine with my Comcast cable service. I basically get the same speed connected directly to the modem or through the Ethernet port on the DGL-4500 router (~20MB down, 3MB up testing using www.speedtest.net). When I try to connect through the Wireless with my Lennova T-410 laptop, I get a very slow wireless speed to the point that the Internet is unusable. If I reset the router, I get a fast speed for about a minute and then the wireless gets very slow. I have to continually reset the router.
I have read the forums and tried different things to potentially fix it but nothing seems to work. I have set the router to Wireless N only. All the devices I have that connect to it are Wireless N devices. All of them get very slow speeds. I have the following devices connected through Wireless: HP Desktop 600XT, HP C309N printer, 2 iPhone 4, 2 iPads, and 2 DAP-1522 Wireless bridges. All the other devices that I have that connect (e.g. XBOX360, PS3, Wii, Slingbox) are all connected through the Ethernet ports or the 2 wireless N bridges.
The other settings I changed based on the forums are below:
-Changed Beacon Period to 50 (from default of 100)
-Short GI - deselected this setting (supposedly could help if RF interference problems)
-Changed from WPA2 (TKIP and AES) Cipher to just WPA2 (AES)
-Using 802.11N only mode
-Turned off WISH
I have talked with DLINK technical support, but they are really no help. They told me to downgrade the firmware from 1.23NA (I had upgrade from 1.21). I downgraded to 1.22 with no difference. I have since put it back to 1.23NA. They also said to set it to a specific channel like 9. I did that instead of the default Auto CHannel Scan. I have changed that back to the default again.
I am also using the 2.4GHz band.
If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. The technical support said it is probably a fault router. I don't know if it is or not. I will plan to return it, but I fear I might have the same issues.
