Internet connection keeps dropping on 655...
« on: August 06, 2008, 03:58:51 PM »

I tried searching here and couldn't find any useful results-sorry if this is a rehash of an old topic.

None of my client machines are losing any wireless connection at all with the 655- I remain perfectly connected everywhere... but the internet connectivity continually flakes out. It'll work for 5 minutes, then disappear... then, it comes back at some random time. Is this a known issue? I just got the router today and am a bit frustrated by its inability to maintain a consistent internet connection. I'm using a variety of different clients- Dell laptops mostly and a few iPhones- and I'm seeing the same symptoms everywhere.

I know it's not the internet connection itself, because I have 2 ethernet cables running from the same source- one running directly into a desktop, and one running into the 655- and the desktop connection never goes away. I swapped the cables that run into the desktop and the 655, just to see if there was something funky going on with one of the connections- and the same thing kept happening on the 655, while the desktop never suffered any problem. There's something going on inside the 655 and I can't figure out what.

I'm running 1.11 firmware, what it shipped with, for what it's worth.

Thanks for the help...

I have DIR-655 hardware version A2 with firmware version 1.11 and am connected to Comcast via a Motorola Surfboard cable modem SB5101.  I have recently  been experiencing this same problem with my two wireless connections which is only rectified by rebooting the cable modem and then the DIR-655.  It has been occurring about every couple days at most.  I decided to check posts here to see if anyone else was having this problem.  My initial thought was that it was being caused by Comcast but I haven't tried isolating it by connecting one of my computers directly to the modem.

Edit:  On further investigation after reading numerous other posts with similar problems related to deauthorization, I checked my logs.  I found that my wireless connections were "Deauthorized".  It be great to find out why this is happening.  I haven't made any changes in my setup other than updating my firmware which was a while ago.  The two computers that are being deauthorized run Windows XP Pro and Vista Home Premium.

I am experiencing the exact same thing with Verizon FIOS.  The only difference is that I flake out about once an hour for anywhere  from a few seconds to several minutes and then the LAN connection comes back.  I switched over to Verizon's Actiontec router and the problem is gone. I have V1.11 firmware hardware/A3 and am going to try updating to V1.20.

My experience with "deauthentication" message in the D-Link's routers was caused by an enhanced software firewall (Norton 360.)   This firewall was causing my D-Link N router to receive "deauthentication" and "stripped" out my N wireless network SSID from the list of available networks.  However, when I re-set up my G network router, the wireless network constantly work.  Turned out the firewall needs to have the SSID listed in the "trusted" / "shared" networks.

Uncheck the "Enable DNS Relay" in the Network Settings. It might help. Maybe lower the MTU about 10 or 20 digits too.

I am having the same issue, I have a cable modem which also has phone services on it, with a 20mb connection to the d-link router. Last night I was downloading a 435mb file from two pc's to update a game, and the wireless was flying on it, but the wired one was doing almost nothing, I changed out cables to be sure, and switched ports as well and resumed... but it still was dog slow. I have an incident open here with D-link... stay tuned.
