DGL-4500 1.12 Firmware has been released ---- DON'T UPGRADE TO IT!!!
« Reply #1 on: August 08, 2008, 03:34:42 PM »

DON'T UPGRADE TO THE 1.12 FIRMWARE!!!

I upgraded to 1.12 from 1.11 Beta.  I saved my very intricate configuration before upgrading to 1.12.  The upgrade went fine and wiped out my config.  No problem, it warned me prior to the upgrade and I have my backup to go back to.  I even have a couple copies of it.  Well guess what, the configuration load FAILED!!!

Restore Invalid
The restored configuration file is not correct. You may have restored a file that is not intended for this device,
or the restored file may be corrupted.
Try the restore again with valid restore configuration file.
Please press the button below to continue configuring the router.

So I tried to reload the 1.11 Beta firmware.  It FAILED TOO!!!

Upload Failed
The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this device, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.
If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the device may be too busy to properly receive it right now.
In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an
'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.
The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

Needless to say, I got what I deserved.  I thought they had actually fixed the issues since 1.11 Beta worked well for me.  Now I can't even go back to what I had working without a lot of tweaking from the default configuration.

I'm so mad I want to throw my 4500 and every other D-Link product out the window and go back to using my Linksys equipment.

Don't blame D-Link, as far as I know they didn't even officially announce 1.12. It's a development release as far as I can tell, so you took the risk of using it knowing the potential consequences.

If it isn't a final release it should have "beta" in the name.  I don't know anything about 1.12 but it may not be a simple patch but a full OS upgrade which would prevent you from going back to 1.11.  Much like how you couldn't go from 1.10/1.11 back to 1.02/1.03 etc...  If that was the case then you wouldn't be able to restore your config files from what I understand.

It's an "official" release as it shows it on d-link's download site.  As for being able to upload saved configs and having to reconfigure the router after a firmware flash...you still are hosed even though Lycan responded with this http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=2053.15

I went and picked up a DWA-160B and couldn't get it to work with 1.11 so I tried 1.12 and after some troubleshooting it began working.  Then another laptop with the old A rev didn't work with 1.12 but finally got both working.

Well I had only owned my dgl-4500 two days before this firmware update became available so I flashed to it.  It reloaded my saved profile just fine.  I will say that I keep all of my computer and networking equipment protected on apc battery backups and I would never attempt to flash anything that wouldn't be able to retain power in the event of main power going out.

Let me amend my previous statement.  I used the reset button on the back to restore factory defaults and when I tried to load my configuration it said that it was out of range for the device so I had to manually reenter everything back in.  So far I've noticed that if I enable game rules for counterstrike it has the opposite effect of what its supposed to.  If I enable it my game gets blocked from accessing the net.  If I disable it my game works like normal.  This is the exact opposite of what 1.02 did and is very irritating.

Restoring the configuration didn't work for me either, but, it never has.

I wonder if the people who are getting it to work have fairly simple or standard setups?

I'm using no wireless security and using MAC filtering...could that be why the config won't restore?

I sure wish D-Link would make a Wireless MAC filtering option. Seems pretty dumb to apply it to plugged in devices.

If you're not able load a configuration file after a firmware upgrade, try clicking the restore to factory defaults button first.
Also it's not like we pushed the firmware on you, you chose to install it. Blaming the product or D-Link for trying to make our products better isn't fair. We're not releasing this code, thinking to make things worse, we're trying to improve things. If you're not comfortable with reconfiguring your router because the config is complicated, then using beta code is not for you. ALL CODE POSTED TO THE FORUMS IS BETA. Final releases will go through the support site.

For the record, there was no expletive in my post. None whatsoever.

Anyone else having UPNP issues? Also, is anyone else's DHCP handing out "forever" addresses when it should be 24 hours?

I've had nothing but problems with the 1.12 firmware.  The DGL4500 won't configure itself properly via DHCP anymore.  Port forwarding doesn't work (it appears to block ports I attempt to port forward.)  SPI prevents my Vonage phone from working (it didn't in the past.)

The router was working OK with the 1.02 but 1.12 is making me annoyed.  Tech support responded by saying I should downgrade my firmware; but the first revision note for the 1.12 firmware is saying you can't downgrade!

Very annoyed.  Looking for a replacement router now.

I also wanted to add that 1.12 will go into a reboot cycle for me if I attempt to load the hurricane coverage page from http://www.livenewscameras.com/map.html. This has never happened to me before flashing to the 1.12 firmware.  So far I'm not happy with the lost functionality I'm experiencing.  I hope that d-link can address these issues soon with a revised firmware.
