Norton Ghost 15

I've been able to copy files to the WD drive attached to my DIR-655 router but Ghost gets an error eventhough is recognizes the drive is connected. If others have this problem as well please let me know, thanks.

Hi cxmiller,

For Ghost, plug the WD Drive into the USB Port on the computer itself. Don't use the USB Port on the Router when backing up or Restoring.

If you want a Hard Drive to plug into the Router, you need to use a Storage Unit that attaches with a Ethernet Cable.

Hi cxmiller,

I don't use the USB Port.

It could be use for an extra USB Hard Drive, but not for Ghosting  or Imaging the Hard Drive. And certaining not for restoring a partition.

True, if you have to do a restore from the SRD you will never see that drive.  The use of that port was originally intended for use in setting up WCN with a flash drive, it was never intended for use to support drives and printers.  After a long time requesting the option of using it as a straight USB port Shareport software showed up but has always been buggy.  I think the best use of the port is to power a laptop cooler that the router sits on to keep the temps down on the router.
