What Operating System do you have on the system with the 552?

Are you using the DLink Connection Manager or letting Windows handle the wirelsss connection?

I believe that some of these routers do not have 5Ghz bands thus they are not capable of doing 300Mb connections as is required to get that connection.

The 655 and the 552 are a matched set, I have the same thing running in my home.  The OP should be able to get close to 300.  I reguarly see 240 -270 when looking at the wireless status page for the system with the 552.

The 655 will use two channels for the wireless, a Primary and Secondary.  If you look at your status page after logging into the router it will show the 2 channels it is using.  You want to look here to make sure that the channel width is showing at 40 MHz.  You don't need to use a specific channel unless you are getting interference from any neighbors wireless signals.  You do want to use WPA2 with AES only to achieve the higher speeds.

If you want close to 300 then it needs to be WPA2 only, AES only.  if you have neighbors with WIFI, their signals could be causing you not to see 300 also.  If the 655 sense other signals in the area it will "throttle down" so it doesn't interfere with them (Google WIFI Good Neighbor policy).  You can use a program such as Inssider to see what channels are being used in your area.

In the router setup page....click on status at the top of the page then click on wireless located on the left side of the page.

You will see the rate of all wireless devices connected to the router.

Thanks. What a good number to have then? My PSP has 11M and my Nintendo Wii has 54M. Is that a bad number to have?

Those are good numbers, I think the Wii has a G adapter so 54 would be max.
