Nice job with the general information, however, what does the log say is happening?

If this were my setup, I would set-up the isolated cameras on their own subnet and set the Routing, Hops metric, and advanced networking very carefully.

@kthaddock - will probably re-run the lines to set it up this way, but currently it's not possible without re-running lines.  The router is in one room, a line goes into the wall, then up into the actic, then the line come into a closet on the other side of the 2nd floor.  This is where the 2nd floor switch is, then there is another plug that goes to the 1st floor.  So I only have one line leaving from where the router is.

@marmoduke - I'm a software engineer, not a network engineer.  I know my fair share about networking, but I am no expert.  While you may be correct, a more complex/advanced setup may be beneficial, I try to keep it simple.  Have had this setup with dlink equipment for about a year.  Had a very similar setup with all linksys equipment that was in place for 2+ years.

Well I'm a SE as well and it's not that hard to set up a Static IP and test. I would be beneficial to try and see if it might help clear it up. I actually prefer using Static IPs. Then I know whos who and whats what. Give it a go and see. At least you'll cover the bases.

Hi,

Personally, if you need reliability with the cameras, I would be using a battery backup unit in each location of a switch or the router and each pc/server.....adds a bit up front cost for the units, but it protects far better than surge protectors.

If the cable runs in the walls were custom runs, you may have developed bad connections where the little wires connect to the RJ-45 jacks...doesn't take much corrosion to mess up signal flow.

Have you looked in to Powerline (aka HomePlug) devices to extend your network ?  Maybe you pick up a set to test with rather than re-running the cables at first.....

How do you get power to the cameras ?  DC over ethernet (or whatever its called) ?  Might have intermittnet shorts in the cable runs.....Any kinks or really sharp bends in the cables are usually not a good thing.....

@Sammydad1 - Not to worried if te camera's go offline during power outages.  Don't really get many power outages.  My main concern is the network not coming backup properly.

Can't use the powerlines for network connectivity, have tried it before, the house is old, old wiring gave me really bad connections and power connectivity when I tried it a few years ago.

Have line testers, ran all the lines myself, work in the hosting industry, so have had much experience running line over the years.  Doesn't mean they are run perfectly but I don't know of any part of the line runs I

Non of my current camera's have power over ethernet, they are all plugged in to wall outlet via surge protectors.

Uhe another way to get it to work is using VLAN tagging but DIR-655 not support that
