Have a DIR-655 and two D-link DGS-2208 Switchs.  Everything has worked pretty well since I got the router and switchs a few months ago, up until 2 weeks ago everything worked great.  Have 3 Computers (1 Server, 2 PC's), and 5 Network Camera's hooked into the network.  All on static IP's, have a few port forwards and virtuals setup in the router, but nothing crazy.  2 weeks ago the power went out, the server is on a upc but will only stay up for a short time, all the camera's and switches are on surge protectors.  

Below is a simple diagram of the network layout.  The network is on two floors, the pcs are all connected directly to the router, the router is connected to the first switch, 2 camera's are connected to it.  Then a line goes from that switch to the other switch on the first floor, and 3 camera's are attached to it.  

Again all has worked great until the power went out.  When the power came back up Camera4 and Camera5 won't come back online.  Tried reseting the router, the switches, the camera's, but no luck.  Figured maybe the camera's were dead or screwed up.  Unhooked the camera's and brought them up to the see if I could figure out what was wrong with them.  I unhooked one of the pc's and hooked the 2 non-working camera's into the router directly, and they worked just fine.  Then moved the camera's to thw first switch, and they worked there too.  Moved the cameras back down to the second switch and they still won't work on the second switch.

I then tried to switch the 2 switches, still the same results.  the 2 camera's wouldn't work on the second switch.  But one camera was working just fine on that second switch, which is what really confused me.  Why does one work and the others don't?  I even tried putting a another switch in place each switch, I have an old linksys switch sitting around, but even with it in place the results where the same.  

I went ahead and left the 2 non-working camera's hooked up where they originally where located.  If you watch the switch the switch connection light up for a second and then turn off, basically blinking.  

The next day, thing got even weirder, I reset the power on one camera and suddenly it worked.  But the other camera still didn't work.  I haven't been able to figure out the problem for 2 weeks, but last night the power went out a few times because of storms.  Now the two camera's aren't working again...

Any ideas?

Note: Router is running 1.34NA Firmware.

Possibly faulty switch I would say if all the cameras are working directly connected to the router or the other switch. Have you moved the cables connecting the switch to a different LAN ports? How about the same for the cameras connecting to the switch, tried different ports?

That is what I thought first too, but I have switched the switches and got the same results.  Plus I have swapped the second floor switched out with linksys switch and I got the same results.  Although I haven't tried putting the linksys in place of the first floor one yet. 

Did just upgrade to the 1.35 fireware today, funny enough 1 of the camera's is now working again.

Will try to swap out the first floor switch with the old linksys one and post my results.

Might try swapping cables running to the switch too..just in case.

Have been using a little 6ft cable to do most of my testing.  The actual cable are run thru the walls so can't easily replace any of the cables, would have to re-run them.   

Guess I could just try and hook everything up in the same room, and see if it works that way, if it does, them maybe the cable between the two switches has a problem.  That would be a weird issue thou, since 2 of the 3 camera's work...

ya thats true, if the other cameras are working cables should be ok. I would lean towards something on the camera or the swtich. You moved the working cameras to the 2nd switch and they worked there right? Possible something odd with cameras? This is confusing for sure.

I really think there is something more to this.  I've had the same problem after two power outages.  Similar wired lan setup, upstairs/downstairs (two floors, all PC's, no cameras).  After you lose power, the switch upstairs will not get an IP address.  Tried resetting all the devices in all possible order, no luck. 

Most times after this problem starts (though not always), i can plug a PC directly into the wall upstairs (not using the switch up there), and it will be fine.  That clears up a problem with the cable in the wall, and the cable that goes to the switch.  I've also used the same 6ft cable that works when downstairs with the router, and it will not work in the switch.

All of this was fine for over a year; had a power outage, had this same problem.  After many hours and resets of things, it all worked again.  I did not WRITE DOWN the final order of addition that worked.  I installed a UPS upstairs to smooth the power, but when the time came again it failed anyway (fantastic, thanks APC).  Now I'm stuck repeating the same tests I've been through before.

I believe that the router is not refreshing the IP lease(s) for the switch.  it seems content to send the one IP up there, so that one PC can be plugged into the wall (and essentially straight into the router), but will not "see" the switch or the other connected devices. 

Any experience on this would be a help.  I am wary to change firmware, because everytime i've done that there have been other problems.  This setup has been stable for years.  I have not reset the router yet, only powered it down.  I have an aversion to the DLink web setup that I do probably need to get over, the whole thing is just really frustrating...

Thanks for the venting at least, and anyone with experience fixing this would be a huge help.

Ok, here is the results of my latest test...

I swoped the 1st floor switch with linksys switch I have sitting around.  Same results, 2 cameras work(the same 2), and the 3rd just blinks on and off. 

Next I tried only have the 1 camera plugged in, unplugged to the working ones.  Didn't work.  Tried on both switches...

Slowly going crazy...

Yes, i agree with going crazy.  you apply logic over and over, and every time you are defeated.  it sucks.

I remember searching through here last time for info about IP address leases, but i can't find anything relevant (yet). 

At one point last time i had the router unplugged for about 24 hours.  Sometime shortly after that all things lit up again, but i can't do that now. 

I've tried rebooting everything (including the cable modem) in every order; keeping devices off, then turning them on in various sequences; letting everything stay on, then rebooting the router, all possible scenarios.  No luck yet.  I need out of the box.

Was curious, are your cameras on a automatic IP adderss assignment? Does the same thing happens if you static assign an IP address to one or all the cameras?

All cameras and PC's are on static IP, dhcp is enabled on the router but its a range that is not the same as the statics IP's and is only on for wireless use, phones.  Although I guess I could try change the camera to dhcp.

Let us know how that goes...man this is crazy for sure. I wish I could be of more help. Seems like you've tried just about everything to narrow it down.

Don't rule out the surge protectors as being bad.  Sometimes when the power comes back on there is a surge and the protector takes a hit.  Even though it may appear to be working correctly it may not be running at peak efficiency.

Thank you, that is worth a shot.  I don't trust the UPS anyway, and i haven't substituted anything there.  I will try not to check it with a baseball bat.

Put 1:st floor switch direct to dir-655 and not in 2:nd floor switch.
