Hello -

I cannot get my home sharing to work with my Win7 PC - specifically my library does not show up on the ATV2 computers section. I have done all the proper setup (me thinks):

- turned on home sharing on the pc and put in my password
- tried the done button "fix" to keep home sharing in the tree active....
- unplugged the apple tv and router multiple times....
- turned home sharing on and off in the ATV2 menu
- Itunes is permitted in the win 7 firewall page
- bla bla bla

Router - Dlink DIR-665

I decided to run an Ethernet cord across the floor and plug the atv2 in directly and within about 30 seconds my computer appeared and things were fine. I unplugged it allowing it reconnected to my wifi router it vanished.

This must be a setting in the router... but I cannot figure it out. Any ideas - thanks in advance for any help.

Try disabling SHORT GI and WLAN Partition under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
You might set up static IP addresses too.
Turn off all SW Firewalls while testing.

Thanks for your response - no luck

Short GI = off
WLAN partition = off (off by default I think)

I have made a permanent reservation for the Apple TV - should work as good as static?

I have shut off windows firewall as well.

Any other ideas?  Thanks again.

What wireless mode are you using? Try single mode G with out any security for a test.

To answer you specifically - I was use 2.4N with WPA2 security.  It is connecting to the internet fine just not seeing iTunes on my LAN PC.  Funny - I can use AirPlay to push content to that Apple TV but it cannot see that PC's iTunes it is coming from....

Thanks again.

No unfortunately not.  It seems many others are having the same problem but have no isolated the cause.

Thanks - I really like this router - but it seems some have just give up and put an airport extreme in.  I will fight it a bit longer....

How is the PC connected? Wired or wireless, and does this connection ever change while troubleshooting? If wireless, what card/usb? If wired, try switching to 5GHz for use with the ATV.

It could be 40MHz mode causing interference with other 2.4GHz devices and lowering throughput below an Apple set threshold for local content, internet content might have a more lax threshold. With 2.4GHz N, you should always run in 20MHz mode to cut down on interference, 40MHz mode should be reserved for use with 5GHz only. Too bad the ATV 2 is only single stream and not MIMO.

I am having the exact same issue. I have 2 ATV2 and a windows 7 machine and homesharing is not working although I have it set-up correctly.

I have no other issues with other devices, like my PC 3 or HP HomeMedia EX490...

Really hoping that there is a "fix" for this as I just purchased the router. This is not a problem that I had with my previous linksys...  ???
