I consider this to be quite a serious "issue".

I've been running my DNS-323 (fw 1.05) for several months with a pair of Maxtor 80GB drives in a RAID1 array - everyting looks good, status page shows nothing out of place, and the front panel LEDs are all blue and lit as expected.

Whilst transferring some files this morning I noticed that only the left drive LED was showing activity - so on completion of the transfer, I pulled the right drive and hooked it up to a PC running Windows XP Pro and the EXT2IFS file system driver - all the expected partitions are there - BUT - they are all empty.  The left drive was then pulled and connected to the same PC and this time I could see the files.

It is obviously possible for this device to be configured for RAID1 and not be functioning as a RAID1 device with no warnings - this is NOT good.

In The status page of the DNS-323 web-based configuration is it displaying "Sync Time Remaining:  Completed"?

Are you still seeing this issue? I have yet to replicate this .

I reformatted the drives in the unit about two weeks back and it appears to have been fine ever since - at least when writing, both drive LEDs flash indicating activity on both drives.

If you would like - in the morning I could pull the drives and verify that there is data on both.

I powered the unit down, pulled the drives one by one and hooked them up to my Windows desktop using a USB/SATA bridge and ext2IFS - the data is on both disks as it should be

I want to upgrade my drives and it's stripping (raid 0) from two 400gb drives to two 1tb drives. any way this can be done without loosing data from the old drives?

can we create a new raid array and still be able to read the old array?

If what you have is RAID0 - you have only one way to make any changes - back up the data, make the change and then restore.

Do you mean take out the two 1TB drives and reinsert you old drives and access your old drive configuration and data as it was before? Yes you should be able to this.

Just a suggestion.

Backup the data before you remove the disks - and don't forget to let us know what happens when you put them back.
