Connection uptime resets on DIR-655 Rev B1 2.00 NA
« on: January 19, 2011, 09:09:44 AM »

My connection uptime resets back to 0 days every so often. My longest uptime is about 7 days. Any suggestions as to why my connection uptime resets?

Been any power outages that you know of?

Is your connections affected by this occurrence?

Well you could try disabling it however I would leave it on if you play games online or use game console online. Are there any log entries around this time frame? If its not effecting you being online then might not worry too much. Is interesting why its resetting if it's not a valid power cycle though.

Could be your ISP giving you a new DHCP address.

would this cause the router to reboot or reset the connection uptime?

Shouldn't cause a reboot, but may change the connection uptime.  As the new IP is treated as a new connection.

What is your ISP service? Cable or DSL? Do you know if your modem is a stand alone modem or does it have a built in router?

Is your 655 router WAN IP getting a private or public IP address? Public looks like ##.##.###.###, private is a 192.168 addr.

I presume that if the connection is still going and it's just showing up in the logs and the time resets, the router is doing what it's supposed to. However makes me wonder why your ISP or there modem keeps changing IPs on you every 7 days or so. I would ask them to see if thats normal for them to do that. I think most ISP change IPs 30day or more. Just depends.

Its a public IP i just blanked it out. Not sure if the dhcp lease is expiring but i will monitor it going forward. As far as the connection interruptions i havent noticed any at all.

OK, well it's preferred to have the 655 router get a public IP address however your using FIOS so I'm not sure if this can be done.

The 655 is getting the public IP straight from the ONT which then feeds all my other devices.
