DNS-321 Freezes
« on: January 24, 2011, 08:42:02 PM »

My unit just started doing this - it freezes for no apparent reason.  I thought it was freezing when its supposed to hibernate but after some testing, that is not the case (I turned off the power management feature and it still freezes).  The last temp reading before freezing is 109 F.  I have 2 Western Digital 1.5TB Caviar drives with a Raid 0 config.  Everything has worked great since I got the unit (12/2009) but all of a sudden it freezes.  I ran the Disk Diagnostic and the disk scan and both drives pass.

I have to unplug the unit and restart it.  As long as I can keep it active, it works fine.

Any idea why this would start all of a sudden?  Is there anything within the unit (tool or app) that may cause this?  The unit is only used for backups - nothing else.  It spends most of its time doing nothing.

Thanks :)

Update:  After reading several pages of forum postings, the consensus seemed to be to disable any servers you aren't using and then reset to factory.  I decided to look over the server settings and noticed it took forever for the iTunes server to refresh.  It eventually got stuck at 38% and then froze the unit.  Not sure why I turned this on in the first place - my DNS-321 is for backup only.  Funny enough, I can't disable the iTunes server unless it refreshes to 100% so I'm stuck with going back to factory settings.

Did all that and reconfigured and kept the iTunes server disabled - everything is working again.
