On a side note (that may not necessarily be related to your problem):
If you're trying this out on a PC and are using the DivX Player itself, keep in mind it isn't the greatest software out there. When I play a .divx or .avi file with DivX Player over a network drive or UNC path, it takes an amazingly long time to start playing the movie. The longer the movie, the longer the delay. For a two hour movie, I once let it sit for over an hour and a half before the DivX Player actually played the file.
Should you have trouble on a PC, you can install ffdshow-tryouts from sourceforge.net & haali splitter (also called matroska splitter.. Google it) so you can playback DivX/XviD content in Windows Media Player - and it will play instantly with no delay. After installing ffdshow-tryouts & haali, you can also reconfigure Winamp's DirectShow plugin to play .avi, .divx, .mp4 files as well which removes delays in playing those types of files from the DNS-323.
