Wireless bridge: DIR-655 and DI-624
« on: September 22, 2008, 04:36:53 PM »

Hi there,
Just got a new DIR-655 and was hoping I'd be able to use my old DI-624 as a wireless bridge and clean up some cables, but I'm having difficulty setting that up. First, is it possible? Secondly, how would I go about it, preferably using my 655 as the gateway router, if not then the other way around.
Thanks.

PS- Sorry if this is a commonly asked question, couldn't find any definitive answers on it, if theres a similar thread feel free to just give me the link and I'll be on my way :)

Thats not possible.
You'll need to replace that DI-624 with a DAP-1522.

It's possible for me with my DIR-655 and DI-624! If I'm hearing correclty, that is.

I connect my Wii, DS', and 2 Linksys media extenders, wirelessly, to my DI-624. Then the DI-624 to the DIR-655, wired to each other, for internet access.

I've had it this way for a year now. Just run a cable from any port on the DI-624 (not the WAN) to any port on the DIR-655 (not the WAN, duh).

Under Wireless, set a channel, making sure it's different from the DIR-655 (I use 6)
Under WAN set a Static IP Address (I use 192.168.2.2)
Under LAN set the IP (I use 192.168.2.20)
Under DHCP, turn off DHCP in the DI-624

And you're good to go. Is this what you're talking about?

Yes, that is possible thats not a bridge though. Thats an AP. It's different.
All you need to do is change the IP address of the 624 to something like 192.168.0.2 and then disable the DHCP server. What he was asking for is a bridge, a bridge will allow an device to connect wirelessly to the 655 and then you can connect things to the ethernet ports and connect to the rest of the network.

Turning a router into an AP.

You can make the DIR-655 as WAP but not wireless bridge client. Still need a wired switch box connected to port one to the secondary DIR-655 and disable DHCP server feature. This works..
