Router reboots itself after saving changes
« on: September 23, 2008, 10:36:10 AM »

I installed v1.21b05 last night. I went to make a couple changes and whenever I save changes, no matter what changes, the router reboots itself and does not accept the changes. I've tried restoring factory defaults, which works. I can then save changes on a couple/few things, but after that it starts rebooting itself when saving changes. Has anyone else had this issue?

When this happens there is something wrong with the file you download. Down the flash again to a HDD with enough space. Then reset the router back to the factory settings. Now re-flash the router. Try it again.

It happens from factory default settings. I can make a couple of saves, but eventually it starts rebooting itself after trying to make more saves.

What firmware version were you running before?

I also experienced problems, including this one.
I upgraded a firmware 1.02 router directly to 1.21 B04. It had many errors in the admin web interface, the left menu was full of options outside of their respective sections. I solved this reflashing 1.21 B04.

Some minutes later I flashed to 1.21 B05, and configured the router to act as a switch (I have another DIR-655 at home used as my main router). A couple of hours later, I decided to enable the wireless radio on the secondary router, so it acted as a switch + AP. But the router rebooted every time I tried to save the settings, without saving them. I solved it by reseting the unit (pressing the little button on its back)

As of now, it seems to work well, it saves my changes correctly and offers to reboot when needed.

The UI issues could have been resolved by a simple power cycle.
Also if your running 2 APs try spanning their channels apart.

I was running 1.20b07 before this one.

Oops, I missed this one. I'm running a DI-624 as a wireless access point, plugged in to the DIR-655. The DIR-655's wireless is turned off.

It seems to be a bug on the firmware. I also experienced this problem only with the wireless radio turned off.

I tried factory defaults again, reset everything up from scratch and I don't have any troubles so far. I can save changes, etc. I'm not going to turn off wireless. I'm guessing that is what is causing this.

I am also having this same reset instead of save issue with 1.21.

Hopefully 1.22 comes out soon to fix this issue.

So the process is, disable wireless, click save and then the unit reboots?

I haven't had an issue since I started from factory defaults, left wireless on, and set everything else up from scratch.

Not 100% sure, because I got tired of playing around with the router and just installed 1.11.

But it was shortly after I disabled the wireless.  Which saved fine and then I manually re-booted.  Then when you change any other option, pick save, then it reboots without ever saving and going to the reboot now or later menu.

I had so many other speed issues with the newer firmware that I just gave up.  It kept limiting my access to about 30kBs instead of my 300kBs.  Reboot router and it would work properly for about 10 minutes then switch back down to low speed again.  With QOS on  or off.

I will keep trying later firmware, because I would like to hook the printer to the router.

I've gotten the same problem on my router with 1.21 firmware. I usually just reload my settings after a firmware update, but this time I had to make changes. Every time I would try to make a change the router would reboot and the change wouldn't save. I tried reloading firmware, factory resets, and power cycles. No matter what the moment I turned off the wireless the router wouldn't take changes. I've since left the wireless on for the time being and it has no problems accepting changes.
