Looking for UPS that works with DNS323
« on: September 24, 2008, 01:09:38 AM »

I'm looking for a UPS that works with DNS323 that is able to shutdown the NAS properly when the UPS battery finally runs out (when the main power is unavailable ofcouse).
Any working suggestion brand and model for it?
Thanks.

The DNS-323 does not monitor the UPS, so unless you hack the box in some way, you cannot automatically shut it down when the power fails.

This feature will supposedly be included in a new firmware release - no - I have no idea when.

Yes, it will do a proper shut down of the device at a certain % of battery remaining on the UPS. However it will not verify if all transfers have been completed at that time of shut down so any transfer still going on will be terminated. Also remember that the DNS-323 does not support power recovery so it will have to be manually turned back on.

Is that the kind of thing we can hope to see eventually or is it just not supported by the hardware?

To answer Dspoh, yes it is in 1.06.

And to Bdam, it is a hardware feature so it can not be enabled by firmware updates.
