DSM-750 stops after 20 minutes
« on: September 25, 2008, 07:07:02 PM »

I need some help finding what's wrong with my DSM-750.

The player stops playing video after 20 minutes exactly. I can stop 'play' and then hit 'play' again, resuming from where I left off, but it only plays for another 20 minutes and does the same thing all over again. It does not even matter what type of video i'm playing. I can be watching live tv in media center or streaming .avi from WMP11.

I tried changing the 'turn off hard drive after 20 minutes' in Vista x64 to 'never', but that didn't seem to work. I'm no longer set to 'standby' or 'hibernate'. I've run out of ideas. Does anyone know of something else I should look for.

In the Power settings you should have set: Multimedia Settings: Prevent idling to sleep, or  allow the computer to enter away mode.

If that doesn't work (and I suspect these settings aren't the culprit), check any timeout settings in your router.  Which router are you using, out of curiosity?

Well...I solved my issue. I could give anyone 20 chances and they still would have never figured it out in a billion years. The solution .... changes 'turn off hdd activity after 20 minutes' to 'never turn off' AND REBOOT COMPUTER. Any changes made to power settings a reboot will be necessary for the Media Center and WMP11 to be notified of the changes.

My DSM-750 is operating like a gem. I debated long and hard between it and the DMA2200 (Newegg was selling the DMA2200 for $150 - a whole $100 off their everyday price) but I knew the DSM-750 was the right choice. Stupid XBox 360 Arcade sounds like a Harley Davidson compared to the DLink. Anyways, thanks for the suggestion. I did change the multimedia setting to away mode this way the DSM-750 can access the computer anytime.
