I am having trouble installing the drivers for my DWA-552. I have the hardware properly installed because windows recognizes the new hardware as a network controller. using the CD that came with the unit gives me no results. When I start to install the drivers the program quits before actually trying to install anything. I even have the latest drivers 1.6 and 1.7 downloaded from the internet though a labtop on the desktop machine but even those will not install. I am fairly sure I have ruled out hardware problems and I can almost safely point the blame at my OS which is windows 7 professional 64bit. if anyone can tell me how to copy and paste the correct data in the correct places I will be forever grateful.

It doesn't tell you this, but people have been having problems with installing in the 64-Bit operating system.

Uninstall any listed D-Link Software in the Programs and Features section in the Control Panel.

Shut down the computer. Remove the card from the computer. Boot up the computer.

Hook up the computer to the Router via Ethernet Cable.

Download the 1.70 Drivers and unpack the Drivers. Do not install the drivers.

Shut down the computer. Reinstall the Card in the computer.

Go into Computer BIOS and disable the Onboard Lan port. Save and exit and go into the operating system.

When it can't find the drivers, manually install the drivers, by pointing the Wizard to where to search for the correct drivers.

Use Windows Wireless Manager, not D-Link to control the Adapter.

Ok I tried following your advice thecreator but I had no luck. So What I did was I chose update driver software from the device manager. Then I chose "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer." The DWA-552 was on the list as version 8.0.0.332 [4/21/2010] the list also had 8.0.0.162 [6/23/2009]. so now the computer recognizes it as a network adapter and it is the right part but now I get "this device cannot start." aka error code 10. So I am now one step closer to my goal but it is still tantalizingly outside of my reach.

I disabled the only thing in my bios with the word LAN in it but hell if I know whether that worked or not. The option was called "Realtek LAN"

Hi hugh.gent,

Call up D-Link Support. Tell them that you are installing the Adapter in Windows 7 Professional - 64 Bit and what you did. Ask them, if they have updated the drivers for this operating system, otherwise, if less than 30 days, since you purchased it, send it back as defective.

Note: It does work in Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit operating system, but not the 64-Bit version of 7.

Any problem doing that?

Ok I got it working but how it got there is bizarre to say the least. after fretting about it for a day and just as I had resigned to returning it I asked my roommate to lend me his DWA-125 to make sure it would work on mine and get me connected. the second I plugged it in, THE SECOND, it was in the DWA-552 said it was installed (but not fully, something about .11n I didn't bother to look any further into it) so get a 552 and a 125, do what I did then return the 125 I guess.
