iPod Touch Wi Fi?
« on: October 12, 2008, 11:26:31 PM »

I'm ok with computers, but awful with networks and internet settings. Does anyone know how to connect the new Apple iPod Touch to Wi Fi? I have this router at home, but I had to have someone come over just to get my PS3 connected wirelessly. I think I know the WEP key but I can't connect to my own home network.

I know how to do it on the iPod, I just can't get it to work with just this router. I'm not sure I have the right WEP key.

Hello Wake27,

If you're unsure if you have the correct WEP key, let's find out! Go to a computer that is already connected to the internet through the router. Now, open internet explorer and type "192.168.0.1" in the address bar. A login page should appear. The default login is "admin" and you leave the password field blank. You should now be inside the router settings. If the default login does not work whoever setup the router customized the password. If you can't get the password you will need to reset the router and use the installation CD again to set it up. I'll assume you are logged in and I'll continue below.

Click on the "Setup" button on top. Then click Wireless Settings" on the left side. Now click on "Manual wireless connection setup" button near the very bottum of the page. In the second section here it will read "Wireless Security Mode." If I'm not mistaken the IPOD touch is compatible with both WEP and WPA security. I'd recommend the standard WEP with the authentication at 64bit. In the "WEP Key 1" box you will see your current wireless network password. Fill free to re-type what you think it is. After, save the settings.

Now on your IPOD touch, try and re-connect and use the same 10-digit WEP key you typed in the router page. You should be connected here. If now, please come back here and post your results.

Best of Luck,

Russell
