Laptop Wont connec to Router v B2 F/W v 2.2
« on: October 14, 2008, 10:21:57 AM »

I recently had to reformat my laptop
It seems that right after reformatting, my laptop refuses to connect to the router
i reformatted it with vista (i have service pack 2) and have turned off firewall and antiviruses programs too
before reformatting, i had no trouble connecting to the internet
it would connect automatically when i log on

For some reason, i get limited connectivity
Cant connect  to the router default ip 192.168.0.1, which i have not changed
i have 2 computers, 1 (laptop that wont connect) and a tower (cable connected)
the internet on my laptop will work if i use the cable, but refuses to connect wirelessly
even though i have the IPv4 and v6 to automatically obtain, it IPv4 says its local and v6 says limited
when i look at the connection details, all of these are left blank:
connection specific DNS suffix, IPv4 default gateway, IPv4 DNS server, IPv4 WINS server, IPv6 Default gateway

when i do ipconfig, once again, my connection specific DNS suffix is blank, and my default gateway is blank
all under wireless LAN adapter wireless network connection

i think the router wont recognize my computer, when i check the logs on my router (DIR-615)
it says blocked incoming TCP connection request and also blocks outgoing ICMP
ive tried power cycling and everything like that already

im dont really know alot about networking computers, so if im missing any info, please tell me
sorry this is so messy, not really sure how to write all of this down
any help to resolving this issue would be grateful
thanks

Uncheck IPv6 and try to pull a new address. See if the laptop can ping the router.

i assume u mean go into the properties of the wireless connection and uncheck the IPv6
i did that, but im not sure what u mean by pull a new address, i tried ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew
says operation requires elevation
and i tried pinging, says the destination host is unreachable
im not sure what im supposed to try...
sorry im not really good with the networking
but i tried that and it wont work... TT
o ya, i forgot to mention
i get packets sent, but recieve nothing

In Vista for making that kind of operations, (ex:ipconfig/renew), you have to run the command prompt as an administrator.
Right click in command prompt and choose "Run as administrator" then you can do all that things trouble free.
Please let us know, if you solved the problem.
One other thing, did you try, to enable just B/G modes on the router instead of N, this is in the case that you don't have a draft N wifi card on your laptop.
