SharePort drops signal (repeat)
« on: October 29, 2008, 04:23:42 AM »

Hi,
I just read a reponse to my shareport post...and now it looks like the thread disappeared?  (So this is a re-post)

My issue was that on one of my clients, I get a wireless connection just fine, and the SharePort utility finds the router and the USB printer just fine.  Normal signal strength is fine with 4 bars.  However, requesting access to the USB device causes the signal to drop and quickly causes the wireless connection to drop and then re-connect.

The client is running Win XP, SP-3, with a LinkSys WMP300N adapter.  It's connected via N at 2.4 Ghz with WPA 2 security.

I have other clients connected to the DIR-825 and use SharePort just fine.

The technician's question was what version of SharePort am I using...

I'm using version 1.0 of the utility, and I have bios version 1.01 installed on the router.

Thanks!

hello, i am also experiencing this same problem when trying to access a usb drive through share port utility.  the wireless connection drops and then reconnects.  i am also having trouble with other usb sticks being recognized.  i can positively identify this problem with this hardware because i had the dir-628 and was working fine with no drops on wireless connection and recognized all of my usb sticks.  this firmware for the dir-825 is very buggy.  i hope all these bugs are fixed because i only have 10 days to return/exchange this thing.  now i'm thinking i should have kept the dir-628.

i found a solution for the problem.  after breaking my head and junk.  it dawned on my that the recent flash of the latest firmware did not take effect properly.  what i decided to do was the hard reset on the hardware as follows:
1. hold down the reset button on the back for 30 secs
2. while still holding down the reset button, unplug the power and keep holding down for another 30 secs
3. while still holding down the reset button, plug the power back and keep holding for another 30 secs
4. let go of the holding down of the reset button.

let it boot up and go from there, i have not had a problem since.

This firmware flashing issue extents also to the DIR655 model. Not a specific Dlink-only issue, but it needs fixing.
