Configuration for PS3 and Xbox360
« on: November 14, 2008, 10:46:58 AM »

I'm wondering which would be better for Xbox Live and PSN.

UPnP - Enabled or Disabled w/
DHCP Reservations for Xbox 360 and PS3 and
Gamerfuel Enabled

Also should I enable or disable Dynamic Fragmentation?

I get very disappointing download speeds from PSN when download a 6-7GB movie.
Takes like 8-12 hours to download and I have a 10Mbps Downlink and 1Mbps Uplink

I had to DMZ my PS3 and turn UPnP off in order to get things to work right.

I have a PS2 and PS3 connected to a dap-1522 that connects to the dgl-4500 on 5GHz. No setup was needed with both when I had fw1.02. Since upgrading (down grade is more like it) to 1.12, 1.13, and 1.15 I cant say now that I'm happy with the performance I get.

Maybe 1.16~ will be it for the consoles.

9 times out of 10 if you disable SPI and select both Endpoint Independent for both UDP and TCP filtering (located in the ADVANCED > FIREWALL section) fixes this issues.

I just recently obtained my PS3 and haven't had any problems with it just using UPnP as my main tower is DMZ.  Currently still using 1.12 firmware (came boxed with 1.02) and haven't stepped up to anything higher due to the volume of posts I have been reading about the various firmwares. Anyone have any further data on a better configuration and the recommended firmware to use?

How does this affect security?

I'm wondering this as well.  I'm considering doing this, but my router's log is absolutely filled with blocked packets, and i can't tell if i should be glad those packets were dropped or if i should want them to get through.

UPnP - Enabled for all these devices (Router, PS3, DNS-323, IP internet radio, Popcorn Hour A110, HP MSS, IP Camera)
DHCP Reservations granted for PS3 and all other network devices (wired of wireless)
Gamerfuel Enabled
DMZ not for the PS3 (given for Slingbox instead, however i don't see much difference)

all devices mentioned here runs on respective latest firmwares and updates.
