Router Disconnects
« on: November 16, 2008, 09:34:02 AM »

Im having this problem with my DIR 655 that i got a few months ago ( about 3 months). What happens is that after playing/surfing on the internet for an hour or two, my connection goes off and i have to restart the router. I am unable to ping the router when this happens as well. I do have a bittorrent client running in the background. My internet connection speed is at 100Mbps.

You might want to look into the number of connections that is being made from the torrent client. They tend to generate a lot... Does this disconnecting also occur when the BT client is not active (not started at all)?

Bittorrent is known for smashing NAT.....We offer automatic classification of port based traffic via the QoS engine. With the BT being classified as the same priority as the rest of the traffic on the network the NAT becomes confused.
Give the BT traffic the lowest priority that the QoS engine will allow. This will fix your right up.

Im trying that out now. On a seperate note does anyone know what is the problem when one of the computers keep having a "Local Area Network Connection Disconnected" popup that lasts 1-2 secs and causes lag spikes. That computer is connected by wired connection to the router.

When you see "Local Area Connection is now connected" immediately check the log. See if the router rebooted. You could also run a syslog and watch those reboots.

And if it is not the router that lags or disconnects: Please state the OS you're running.
When Vista: try disabling the Network Autotuning setting
