I just finished setting up my new rig (655/552 + antenna), and I have my 360 connected through my WAN1 port.  I was incredibly disappointed to see that when playing COD, I'm getting worse connectivity than with my old faithful 54MBPS $30 router.  I'm getting 2 yellow bars, max.

I've searched the forums, but can't find advice for firmware 1.21 and ethernet connections to the 360.  Can somebody help me out?  I'm not a complete idiot, but simpler instructions would be much appreciated... I've never played with qos settings or anything like that.  Thanks!

Anyone?  Would love to know how to set the Xbox as a priority without killing the internet from my computer....

First if your 360 is connected to the wan port of the router that will not work. Connect your 360 to a LAN port of the router and your modem to the WAN port.  Then reference the following links.

Rufioh... thanks.  Yeah, sorry... I have the WAN and LAN connected correctly (it was just late night typing).  What is a good priorty number that will allow downloading/surfing to click along, but give my Xbox a higher priority?

1 would be the higher priority and 255 being the lowest

OK, I have the rules nearly set.  Another question: do I have to set rules for every computer on the network?  In other words, if I set 5 as the priority for my Xbox, and don't set any rules for my 2 PCs, will that suffice?  Or do I have to specify priorities for my computers for this to work properly?

I believe 255 is the default priority (once QOS is enabled) since the router will assume all other traffic is less important? Is that correct?

If so, then no other rules are required.

Pretty sure this is correct since I'm having no problems.

I have H.323 (port 1720) set to 1, xbox 360 set to 4, ftp (ports 20,21) set to 8, https (port 443) set to 16, http (port 80) set to 128, pop3 (port 110) set to 192, and smtp (port 25) set to 224.

Everything else is 255 if my statement above is correct. Works great!

255 is the LOWEST priority. 1 is the highest. Default traffic is assigned 128.

Try this recipe the next time you're tweaking:

H.323 (port 1720) set to 96, xbox 360 set to 96, Automatic Classification on, no other rules. 

Wonder why 128 was chosen as default?

Think of it as an audio equalizer 1-255 -- 128 is in the middle.  So priorities above and below will be treated relative to 128 if there is any outgoing congestion.  Automatic classification has never given anything a priority better than 128, so don't force it much better than 128 with your manual rules otherwise you may unnecessarily starve other traffic when only a bit of bias is called for.  Just like you'd never put a knob on an equalizer at the very top or very bottom of its range, you probably don't want to do that with QOS Engine, either.

(wild guess)
Turn DNS Relay off (Network Setup page)
Turn automatic speed test to manual (and set the right value)
Restart the router and the XBox  (computers need to draw a new DHCP reservation to get new DNS servers, most will do that automatically)

If this helps, it jives with other reports that connect broken port forwarding with DNS Relay.  I don't have an Xbox, so this is a wild guess.
