Hey guys, just thought I'd share my DPC interruption experience (and fix) with a similar issue, albeit a different adapter (D-Link DWA-130). Basically, it appears that the problem is related to the use of Wireless Zero Config and D-Link's drivers. If you disable Wireless Zero Config you don't have any issues, but then you get screwed and lose connection. The DPC interruptions immediately go away when you disable Zero Config.

The fix: If you download the latest drivers and let the D-Link utility manage your wireless connection the problem goes away completely. Now, personally I think this is BS because I loathe having to run manufacturer software on my machine when the OS is perfectly capable of doing the tasks they are trying to accomplish - However, in this situation it definitely resolves the issue. If you have more than one wireless adapter/manufacturer things get tricky, so D-Link still needs to fix this.

Another note: I've noticed a wild variation of link speeds by using Windows' Wireless Zero Config utility, however when you use D-Link's manager software it has really helped keep me at maximum speed. Whether they are just not reporting the numbers as accurately as Windows is another issue, but at least it looks like it's working better ;)

Hi michel,

If you disable the wireless driver, all communications stop, inbound and outbound communications to other programs as well. Cisco's Speed Meter Pro is causing spikes, as well as the installation of Updates to your Anti-Virus programs.

BTW, I never heard of WinXP SP3. I run Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3.

Hi !

Yes, obviously disabling the Wireless disconnects your computer from the network.

Unfortunately, even if the problem is less apparent now listening to MP3s with Media Player, that's what I still have to do with the latest beta driver when I want to record music with Reaper...

...

And unlike the previous poster, the problem is still there with both the D-Link Manager and Windows Wireless...

PS: WinXP SP3 = Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3

I also have this same problem.  Only difference is I am using the DWA-542.  To add more consistency I have two 542s on two separate systems, and they both cause this problem.  One system has a chaintech 7njl6 motherboard and an AMD Sem**** 2500.  The other has ABIT KN8 SLI mb with AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200.  Both computers worked fine when I had linksys wireless g routers.  So the real similarity I see is that both are using AMD chips.  No idea if that could have anything to do with it.

I switched over to the wireless n for a little more range, which it did accomplish, but now I can't play any mp3s, or any video without is skipping or slowing down like everyone else has mentioned.

I also noted that if I used wireless security, I would lose my connection to my router and the pc wouldn't reconnect on its own (using windows or the dlink app).  Disabling wireless security it has no issues with reconnecting.

I hate that it took me so long to figure out it was the wireless cards... Now I'm stuck with two dlink adapters and the stupid dlink N router that probably won't work with other companies wireless N since the standard wasn't really set when I bought it.

Hello, I use the DWA-552 with windows vista 64bit.  My router is a DIR 625 rev A.  The rest of my comp specs are Q9550, P5K-E mobo, 6gb ram and a 4870x2.  With the DPC latency checker, I bounce from the greens to about 4000.  Once I disable the wireless network adapter, the problem is gone and remains in the greens.  Also, 1/2 the time when I boot up the network adapter refuses to connect to the network (although it sees it), but by forcing it to connect 2-3 times it eventually does.  Needless to say I am quite disappointed, I had to get rid of my DWA-142 which did a great job in Xp 32 (because D-link doesn't and has no intention of releasing 64bit drivers)  And now I purchase a card "compatible" with Vista 64bit which refuses to connect half the time and creates huge spikes in DPC latency.  I use to be able to watch my slingbox at rates of 5000-5500 Kbps with no hiccups or problems.  Now I have to bring it down to rates of about 3000 to not have any hiccups.

Is this issue still being looked at?  Any word on the release date of another set of drivers?

Just use Atheros drivers instead.

New driver, Version 7.7.0.231 found on http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atheros.htm .

Search for AR5008 for correct driver. Notice there is now a Windows 7 driver too. :)

Version 7.6.1.204 is still the latest driver offered by Windows Update.

Sadly, this newer driver still has this major DPC problem.

Looks like it's never going to be fixed.  :'(

its not 7.7.0.233, its 7.7.0.231

Here is a better place to get latest Atheros drivers.

Windows XP SP3, here.

I just started having these problems the moment I updated to the newest driver available on the website. I had updated multiple pieces of hardware at the same time, audio card, graphics card, chipset drivers, and of course, this D-Link DWA-552 wireless card.

I listen to music every night, and I noticed it was the wireless card purely by having all of the lights off while my computer was playing music. Whenever the lag happened, the blinking light on the back of the wireless card would pause for the duration of the interruption, and then resume.

Thing is, everything got interrupted when this happened. The mouse would freeze, music, everything. Not only that, but the wireless connection dropped consistently (even during periods without this lag across the computer).

I reformatted my computer. Not only did I reformat, but I tried installing the new drivers the first moment I could, just to see if the reformat would validate the drivers or something. BAD idea. This problem happened the moment I installed them. Mind you, this was the only driver I installed. Not even my Logitech Trackball was installed when I installed the new drivers. And this was on SP1.

So, what I did (and I'm not sure if this fix will last once I do Windows Update) was uninstall the adapter, reboot, and put in the CD that came in the box. I went through the setup that way, (and I had my Device Manager open while I did this) and everything went fine. However, when trying to use Windows Zero Config, nothing would work. It was only once I unchecked "Allow Windows to manage wireless" did it start working again.

I double checked the driver info and it says the version I have installed is 6.0.1.175.

I am not going to update this any further. I refuse. This is terribly unprofessional coming from D-Link. About my situation, I also have a Thinkpad T60p with an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG adapter. Haven't had a single problem with it. Works perfectly with Thinkpad Access Connections, Windows Zero Config, and the accompanying Intel software. Just perfectly. It's just not N capable.

:P

I paid 80$ or something for this thing and I expect it to work and not lag my ENTIRE computer up. What's with this, eh? And yes, I am expecting a NEW driver to fix the problems we've all been having.

I did not have ANY more problem since I installed a wire from my basement to my upstairs office.

It took a couple hours but in the end it's all worth it.

No more interuptions and my computer boots a LOT faster.   ;D

Ouch. Expensive much? Did you get a refund for this card?
