My router is a Linksys WRT54G. My main PC has a static IP and I've assigned a static IP to the DNS-321 as well. I've also forwarded the port 21 to my DNS-321 as well. Users have been assigned, FTP has been turned on, permissions have all been set, but for some reason I just cannot access it through FTP. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you trying to access it remotely or from a PC on the local LAN?

Ok - let's go one step at a time ...

First - does it work on the local LAN
Second - what does it not do, when you try to access it remotely?  What is the error?

I like to troubleshoot using the Microsoft ftp client - it gives you the error messages returned by the server.

By the way - have you tried searching the forum, there are several threads on ftp problems, few of which are caused by the device itself

I've searched the forum but I haven't seen anything that helps to solve my problem unfortunately.

The DNS works just fine on local LAN. All the laptops and my computer recognize it and can access it.
I use the Microsoft ftp client as well. When I type in ftp://ftp.192.xxx.x.xxx I get the error message,
"Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder. Details: The server name or address could not be resolved."

I don't understand why it's doing this if I've already set users, permissions, and ip address.

The server name or address could not be resolved.

You must either use an ip address - the public ip address that points to your router - or - a URL that will resolve to that address.

And be honest - you did not get that error message typing ftp://ftp.192.xxx.x.xxx into anything - when you try to obfuscate things the only thing you do is make it more difficult for those of us willing to assist you, to actually provide assistance.

I appreciate the help that you've tried to give me thus far, but I don't being accused of being dishonest.

I think I understand what you're trying to say though. Apparently I was under the impression that the ftp address would be the static ip of the DNS. I'm supposed to use my public ip address?

I apologise for that - I never tried Windows Explorer.

You can't use the static internal ip address to access the unit remotely - it's a private network address and has no meaning on the public internet.
