HDMI issue with A1 still not working?
« on: December 26, 2008, 11:29:30 AM »

I've still got that darn HDMI issue with my A1.  I bought a new tv for Christmas to use with one of my 510's (have several).  The HDMI did not work with the TV.  Knowing these had the problem with HDMI detection, I checked the firmware and it was still at 1.07, so I upgraded it to 1.08 for A1.  Problem solved (I thought).  It correctly detected the hdmi now on boot up, but when the TV is turned off, the stupid thing goes into dumb mode again and you have to power down and reboot when the tv is powered on the next day.  Since the power light stays on all the time on these A1 models, it's really a pain in the butt.  Now I read that once you apply the 1.08 upgrade you can't go back to 1.02 as seems to be the "fix" in the forums.  Does this just need to go back to the factory?

I'm not sure if I'm having the same problem as everyone else, I was able to watch a video with HDMI on my first HDMI monitor (Hanns-G 28")... However--

every time I turn on the 510 it's in AV/composite mode.

switching to HDMI takes much patience, the devices/settings have to be powered on and set in just the right order, with only a few seconds of leeway or it'll auto-cancel. (start in Composite, tell 510 to use HDMI but don't hit OK yet, turn monitor to HDMI, wait 1-2 seconds, press "OK, (wait 4 sec) Arrow, OK" to say yes I can see it even though I can't yet, and in 5-10 seconds the signal can be seen)

then if the monitor EVER gets turned of or goes to "sleep" all the above steps must be repeated.

...AND NOW... I went and bought an expensive new tv (Philips 42" 3000series) JUST FOR with the 510, thinking maybe a real TV instead of a computer monitor, would be more compatible. And now the above method doesn't even work. It never recognizes the big TV at all. Firmware 1.08 installed of course, before I even saw these forums. Completely Sucktastic.

so far, the IDEA that is this box has cost me almost a Grand and still doesn't do what I bought it for (or do it right, anyway).

ANY help with this? at all?

-on a good note, though, I use a DNS-323 as media server and it works great without ANY software installed.

You are correct.  On the A1 revision, when you can get it working (w/1.08 firmware), once the TV goes to sleep or is turned off, the dsm must be rebooted.  Often, it has to even be unplugged, then re-started.  From reading these forums, this seems to be a WELL KNOWN issue.  It's been almost a year since the last firmware and it's still not fixed.  Amazing....

The A2 revision does seem to work properly even after the tv is turned off (and then back on the next day or so).

It is interesting to note that there must be additional differences within the A1 models.  I've got 4 of these machines and my dad has two.  Only one of the A1 models will even work with HDMI and that's the one that loses connection to the tv once the tv has been turned off.  I can't even get the other ones to work through HDMI even with the latest firmware.   Good thing only 3 are A1.

I just wish when I purchased the first one I would have had a tv with HDMI so I could have tested it further.  I never would have bought this model had I realized there were so many problems.

Contact D-Link tech support for a warranty repair. I had the same issue with mine. Turns out the latest update is jacked!!! Got my product back and worked like a charm, no issues whatsoever
