One group per user?
« on: December 28, 2008, 06:59:50 AM »

Is everyone seeing this same "feature" as I am? I'm running latest firmware.

Share Names

Shares cannot be named and will be assigned the same name as the last folder in the path. When multiple shares are created on a single path it will name the second one -1, third -2 etc. Normally this should not be needed, but the 321's scheme of permissions is brain dead and they only effective way to allow multiple users to access a single share is to share it multiple times. Then each user must know which one is theirs, -3 etc.

Sharing with Users

Each share can only be assigned to one user or group. If you want to use a share with multiple users you must share it multiple times or use a group. Unfortunately using a group is not an option either because of use more D-Link stupidity.

One Group Per User

Of all the idiot inspired features of this device, this is by far the worst. Users can only belong to a single group. If you add a user to a second group, it removes them from the other group they were previously in. This when combined with the other problems make permission control on this device nearly useless

Yes, that is just do baaaad  >:(.
I have also managed to f.ck up my user management somehow.
Now when I want to add or remove a user from a group in the iexplore window, the page just crashes (DNS) with a message in IE that

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage  ???

What i did was:
user/groups - Advanced
Created a group called "All"
Thought that I could add all user (that also belongs to other groups like admin) to this group so i pressed "all accounts" - "Add".

When I saw that all users in Administrators were gone (since i also added them to the new group "all" i tried to remove them from "all" and the CRASH.

No way to recover unless ure a linux guru i guess.

Any ideas....dlink?
I do not dare restart the dns-323 since it seems like i still can access admin shares with my admin users but i have to clean up the mess and add fix it but i cant.

Sigh...and the -1 -2 -3 folders drives me crazy.
It means that I have to add all the folders to media portal since i might be logged in as different user depedning on what i did before. And in media portal that means that i have double copies of all songs and movies.

Thhis REALLY MUST BE FIXED.

ps
also when you type a long message in the post reply box you can only see the bottom row you are typing here in the forum just when you press the key - so fix the forum while you are at it ;)
