Well I bought a DIR-655 to get the gigabyte and wireless n But I am switching to att uverse will i be able to still use this router behind att unit that i know is required.

Should be no problem at all. Only thing that can happen is that you need to adjust the "IP" parameters, some ISP's still use bridged modems or PPoA connection.

Wrong, ATT uVerse uses a 2wire gateway as the DHCP server for the TV boxes as well. You CAN use the 655 as a double NAT or as an AP. I suggest using it as a AP since the PC's on the LAN would have port forwarding issues for things like gaming in the double NAT situation.

From Lycan's description (I don't know ATT devices) it's just a standard installation with DHCP off on the DIR (let the ATT device distribute the IP's), but you can run into trouble with NAT (Double NAT). Means you have to manually configure the ports in your internet gateway device since uPnP will not work (works only directly on the DIR655)
