Unable to connect to WLAN using HP iPAQ rx1950
« on: July 26, 2007, 05:39:58 PM »

I upgraded from the Dlink DI-624 to the DIR-655 and now I can no longer connect to the WLAN with my HP iPAQ rx1950.  I am using WPA-PSK encryption which worked fine with the DI-624.  I've manually configured the wireless settings to allow compatibility and even tried going to full compatibility by disabling WPA2 and still couldn't connect.

I can see it attempts to connect in the router's log but it shows a vague message saying connection denied.  How can I determine what rules are causing it to deny connection from my PDA?

I have a PC connected to the LAN port of the router, a laptop and a Game Console connected to the WLAN without problems.  The problem is only restricted to the PDA which is the only device using 802.11b.

You need to lock the router to 802.11B/G only. With the N broadcast the iPaq will never connect.

So I have to ask, why is this?  If you cannot connect in mixed 11b/g/n
mode to a 11b device (which is definitely the case with my Palm Tx),
what is the point of this mode much less creating a mixed 11 b/g/n mode?

I just upgraded to the 1.10 firmware and no change on this front.  If
I put the server in b/g/n I can't see it with the Palm (11b).  It also
seems like in 11b/g/n or 11gn modes I have more issues connecting
at 11g via linux laptop that used to be rocksolid with the dlink di-624.

Will the dir655 ever truly support a mixed b/g/n mode?  So far the
only useful mode has been mixed b/g mode.

Thanks
John

Gotta agree here. I have several devices running b (including Palm TX and various internet radios) that all hang/fail on trying to connect when router is in mixed b/g/n. With b/g it's fine.

Sigh. This router is great but it was a waste of $$$ when I can't use one of the most significant features I bought it for.

I had the same problem until version 1.05. From version 1.10 I am able with the b,g,n, mode to connect my iPaq hx4700 to the network, this device is 802.xx b.

The problem also occurs when trying to connect a Sony PSP to the DIR-655 running firmware 1.04.  I've installed my DI-624 as a bridge to the DIR-655 which allows me to connect with my PDA and the Sony PSP but it would be nice to have just one wireless router for all networking.

It sounds like the firmware 1.10 may solve this so I will give it a try although 1.11 will be released soon (not sure what improvements it has) so I might wait for that one.
