Help! Laptop cannot stay connected to network...
« on: December 29, 2008, 05:11:31 PM »

I bought an HP DV5 laptop computer a few months ago, along with a D-Link DIR-625. The network has always been a little bit shifty in that the laptop stays connected to the router but when large amounts of transferring occur (downloading from internet or transferring data between my laptop and desktop connected to the router--desktop via cat5 directly out of the router and laptop wirelessly).

The solution has been to either restart the laptop or to close the screen (temporarily hybernating it?) and then opening it again... I'm assuming that it reconnects to the network. I can't use the Windows Network and Sharing Center as it says it can't reconnect.

I'm fairly sure that this problem isn't of the laptop as I work at the store I purchased from and I haven't heard this problem from anyone else who bought the same laptop.

I am willing to provide any information from the box of the router as is necessary, I'm just wanting to fix this problem so that I don't have to put up with this bother. I can't play online games or transfer large files because the network cuts out and the transfers just drop and freeze. Please help!!

I've encountered this on a different router (DIR-615.)  It could also be true for yours.  If you check the router's log, you may find that the router might be getting a "deauthentication.." for the wireless adapter (laptop??)   Turned out my Internet security software (Norton 360 at the time) must be told to "trust" the router's IP address and the wireless network SSID.

I have a strong net connection. I am using a macbook pro. Dlink 615.....two desktops hardwired..vista and ubuntu.
Problem.....laptyops lose internet connection. They keep access to each other..good networking. This happens to all laptops..windoze and macs. Everybody sees each other..I print..(using cups) everything but my internet seems to die.then I do a hard reset..(turn on/off) on router..all is well for 30 more mintes. Go figger?
How to do de-authentication thing?

It seems that your set up is using a DNS Relay setting in the router and the primary DNS server of your ISP is not working correctly.  If the primary DNS server is not working, the DNS Relay setting seems to not be able to change to the secondary DNS server .

Check and turn off DNS Relay is it is enabled.
