No Browser Access after 1.06 installed
« on: December 31, 2008, 04:24:55 PM »

Hi

I have installed 1.06 firmware update, and everything looked OK.

However, after a few hours, the browser access to Configuration/Downloads stops running.  Directly accessing the assigned IP results in a HTTP 404 Not Found error.

The NAS does NOT appear in the Easy Search Utility v.4.4.0

Network drives mapped to the unit continue to function normally. ???

Rebooting the NAS brings everything back for a short time.

Few things to try:

- Have a look in the DHCP server to see if the IP address assignment has changed

- Try the default IP from the DNS product documentation (192.168.0.32, 255.255.255.0).  You will need to temporarily change your PC IP stack to an IP in that range.

- Press the reset on that back of the DNS.

Would be helpful to have some details about your network, PC, etc.

In the interim, press the reset on the back of the DNS and then turn the unit off.  Connect the DNS directly to the NIC on your PC using the Ethernet cable supplied.  Set the IP address on your PC to:

IP: 192.168.0.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.0.32)

Turn the DNS on, open your browser and navigate to:

http://192.168.0.32

... this is the 'self-assigned' IP when no DHCP server is present.

Let us know how you make out.

Cheers,

I had this problem and had to reset my router.  Luckily I had an old spare router to do it with and just set my DNS back to a static IP.

I am also experiencing the same basic issue. But, at least in my case, it seems to be directly related to the built in Bit torrent client. I set a torrent to dl 2 days ago (right after I performed the fw upgrade) and tried to login today to add some new torrents and was unable to access the webgui. A quick power off/on and I was able to access the gui again. Then I happened to be watching downloads page in the gui just as a dl finished and BAM, no access again.

My experience is identical to above except the torrent was only running for a few hours.   I loaded the Bit Torrent page and a few seconds later the DNS-323 web server crashed.   I was able to access the drives but not the UI.  After a reboot, I was able to access the UI again.

i have had the same problem as discribed it seems to be the amount of connection that the bit torrent client is making. once i stopped using the bt client i have never had trouble with the unit and connecting to it...i think the firmware 1.06 is still buggy, since i have other issues as well with the 1.06 firmware...

My unit has a static IP address assigned so I don't believe this is a problem.

I deleted about ten old completed torrents to eliminate this as a possible source of the problem, but there is no change.

After resetting the NAS, the web server will crash after about an hour.

Just got my NAS about a week ago, and discovered this frustrating problem.  Is everybody having this problem, or do you think this is a settings related thing?  If lots of people are having this issue then I would imagine that lots of people would be replying to this thread.  I prefer not to have my desktop on 24 hours a day so plan to make this NAS my primary torrent downloader, however this problem has me reconsidering my purchasing decision.  Otherwise great little machine.  I truly hope it is some settings related thing.

I ended up reverting to firmware v 1.05 to get things working correctly again. For my purposes, that firmware works fine. It's the only solution that I have found so far. I guess we'll have to wait for D-Link to address this in the next firmware.  :-[

I can confirm this never happened in 1.05 and the first time I set up a BT transfer (I don't use it very often) after upgrading to 1.06, my web server in the 323 stopped working after about ten minutes or so.  I can't reboot it right now because I'm running something on another computer that will take a few more hours to complete and it relies on the 323.  The 323 continues to serve up files, it's just the web that no longer works.  This is clearly a bug in 1.06.  If this is what i can expect of 1.06, I'm downgrading to 1.05.  What do you say Dlink, will there be a fix for this?  This is a basic function that needs to reliably work.
