Firmware 1.06 reboot problem
« on: January 04, 2009, 04:39:17 AM »

I have 2 Seagate ST31500341AS 1.5TB drives in my system.  They are as follows:

Drive #1 = Model: ST31500341AS Part Number: 9JU138-300 Firmware: SD1A
Drive #2 = Model: ST31500341AS Part Number: 9JU138-302 Firmware: CC1J

When I do a RESTART under Tools/System via the web GUI or the restart from the BitTorrent installation through the easysearch utility drive #2 is not recognized.

If I shutdown the system with the button on the front of the system or select SHUTDOWN from Tools/System and then power it back on, the drive is recognized.

Unfortunately though this causes a re-sync of the drives which of course takes a few hundred minutes to complete.

If the drives are synced and I do a SHUTDOWN and then power on the system, all is fine..

I called Seagate Tech Support about the drive with firmware CC1J and they confirmed that that drive has the latest firmware and that I should contact the DLINK...

Not sure if this is an issue with the CC1J firmware or the DNS-323 not waiting long enough during a RESET for the drives to come online...

Anyone else with this problem, please POST here so we can get some data for either Seagate or DLINK..

Seagate confirms that CC1J firmware is the latest release for the ST31500341AS Part Number: 9JU138-302 drives...  And the drive works just fine in my PC.

So I suspect there is a BUG in the DNS-323 firmware 1.06 that during a reset does not wait long enough for the drives to spin up or report their status and assumes that the drive has been removed..  Dlink Tech can you share any info here or pass this onto the engineering folk?

Anyone from D-link care to comment???  Is there any more information I can get you to help identify the problem?

i have the same problem but i only have 1 seagate 1.5tb drive in mine; Dlink tech support was useless in the matter, when i called them they told me to RMA the DNS323 unit and that it was defective due to this issue, but i think the firmware is not fully supporting the 1.5tb drives yet..

Can you post the specific seagate part number and firmware your drive is?  It should be printed on the label of the drive.  Thanks! - Ed

I just got a replacement drive for the 9JU138-302, this one has firmware CC1H and I am running into exactly the same problem with a soft reboot...

Is this a problem?

When a single drive is installed in the DNS-323 in the LEFT bay it shows up as in SLOT2 on the Status page??!?!?

PHYSICAL DISK INFO :
Slot    Vendor    Model    Serial Number    Size
1    -    -    -    -
2    Seagate    ST31500341AS    9VS0PCL3    1500 G

No - the left bay is "Slot 2"

:)  FINALLY I have been able to get a configuration that works!!   :)

I had to get the same part numbered drive (after trying 2 different ones from seagate) with matching firmware...

I don't know if this is a seagate issue or a DNS-323 issue, but it's finally working with the following 1.5TB drive part# and firmware.  I reboot now and everything is fine..

Model: ST31500341AS Part Number: 9JU138-300 Firmware: SD1A

What I can say is that in my case, my DNS-323 doesn't care what brand the drives are - I've run RAID arrays with one Maxtor/one Seagate and one Maxtor/one WD for months on end with no difficulty
