It's theoretically possible - but you won't know for sure until you (or someone else) trys it.
In reality it's a matter of what NUT drivers D-Link included with their implementation - if you take a look at
this post, you'll see it mentioned that someone else has tested a beta version with an APC BackUPS 500, but a USB equipped version.
As far as I can tell, the APC units with a USB port essentially use a serial port with some sort of internal USB/serial adapter.
If you try it let me know how it goes - I have an older APC Smart UPS here also with no USB port, if it can work I might consider replacing the batteries and putting it back in service - it's one of the bigger 900XL units with the external batteries packs.
