???I have a DIR 655 and I have 2 computers a desktop (generic brand) and an IBM/Lenovo Z60m with its own wireless built in.  My Lenovo can connect and manage my DIR 655 without a problem using WPA-PSK or not.  I tried to install a DWA 552 in my desktop and the first time it failed half way through the install complaining it couldn't find the hardware! I manually installed the drivers and it found itself.  I deinstalled just to be safe and reinstalled everything. I could see my DIR 655 SSID being broadcast and the signal strength was 89%, but try as I might I cannot connect with the DIR 655.

   >:(I spent an hour with D-Link customer support and did everything including reinstalling yet again. They gave up and told me to load the latest drivers and call us in the morning. I can see the SSID network broadcast no problem but I cannot connect. Now I've been playing with wireless networks for a long time but this one takes the cake.

   >:(The bottom line is my Lenovo with an Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG card will connect to my D-Link DIR 655 router and
my D-Link DWA 552 PCI card WILL NOT CONNECT to the D-Link DIR 655 router - WOW, this sux.

What are the Wireless settings for the DIR-655 (include the security settings, if any) for the DIR-655? Does this occur in the Windows Zero Configuration Utility also?

At this point, we will also need to know any information (including OS) that you can give us about your PC. The few post found here in our beta forum, do not mimic your current situation, so... fortunately for you, since its not wide spread, it should be easily isolated and concluded with a quicker and more satisfying resolution!

I wonder if I'm having the same problem. Almost daily I notice my DWL-522 vA1 has switched to the separate G network I'm running, instead of staying connected to my N network.  I thought it might be a problem going into standby or hibernation, but it seems almost random.
I just happened to be watching when Windows Zero ConfigurationWZC spontaneously said 'connected to an unsecured network', then it lost the connection in the middle of some minor web surfing.  At that point I could see the SSID, but could not connect (get authenticated) even with the key that had just been working.  Re-entering key did no good.

Most everything is set to defaults with My 655 Wireless Settings are:
Wireless Radio: Enabled
Mixed 802.11n g and b
Auto Channel Scan: Enabled
Transmission Rate: Best(auto)
SSID: Visable
Security Mode: WPA - Personal
WPA Mode: Auto(WPA or WPA2)
Cipher TKIP and AES
Group Key Update: 3600
with a shared key entered.
WiFi Protected Setup: Enabled/configured

OS: XP SP2,

Everything looks pretty standard in WZC.  Restarting the computer seems to help.  Out of the blue WCZ offered to repair the connection, and that seems to help.  But it is a sneaky, right-click to find the option to repair the connection procedure, and still quite a pain to have to do that regularly (3 times this afternoon?!).

Here's what I found in the log:  For the longest time it is just a bunch of messages about blocking incoming TCP or UDP packets. Then this cycle starts (from the bottom, ignore date, I forgot to reset it):

[INFO]   Sat Jan 31 20:22:41 2004   Wireless system with MAC address #########FB5 disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication.
[INFO]   Sat Jan 31 20:22:36 2004   Wireless system with MAC address #########FB5 associated

Any ideas?  Is this THE DIR-655 or my DWL 552 dropping the connection?
Thanks,

Jones

Have you updated the driver for the DWA-552? I had similar circumstances. Updating the driver solved all issues. (I have a lengthier explanation on the DIR-655 thread).

I have set up to 2 different networks using DIR-655. What I have learned is driver that ships with DWA-552 works with DIR-655 firmware version 1.02 (maybe 1.03 and 1.04). If router (DIR-655) firmware is upgraded to 1.05, then adapter (DWA-552) driver must also be updated.

My wireless has been working great!  :D

Yes, I updated to the 6.0.3.67 (11nDraft2.0_Drivers) Drivers when I started.
Interestingly, I haven't had a problem for a few days.  All I did was go to each logon ID and make it 'repair' the connection.  So far so good.   :)

Hi All,

Question: Is anyone using a Software product called Network Magic? Does your DIR-655 Router have the Network Lock enabled on the Router? If the Network Lock is enabled on the Router, even if you can see the SSID Signal and you have the Security Key, you won't be able to connect to the Router, if the Network Lock is enabled, the first time you are connecting to the Router. Once you are connected, reenable the Network Lock.

The D-Link DIR-655 supports the Network Lock. Make sure it is off when connecting new computers.

I don't have a DIR-655 Router, yet. It is coming, thou.

This is garbage. I installed the dwa-552 on a VISTA x32 box and immediately began encountering the system freezes. After reading through the forums, I switched to the Atheros  XP drivers, and that seems to solve the system freezes. However, now I'm getting the issue where I'll be connected all hunky dory, and bam, my net goes out, even though I still see the SSID and I'm connected to the network. The most annoying thing of all is that I'm getting worse throughput than what I was getting using a DWL-G122 and my DLINK G gaming router. I'm seriously thinking about returning all the garbage N equipment if this kind of headache continues. Release a driver that works, or it's time to jump ship.

I gave up. Not only was I getting no throughput gain, but things just didn't seem to work. Went back to my trusty, 3 year old DLink Gamers Lounge G Router and my DWL-G122 and everything just works, and works well. Not really sure who the QA people are for DLink, but, when so many people are having issues with your N Products, there's something wrong - especially when early adopters are paying out the ears for marginal to no performance gain!
