Hi,

Iīm using Jumbo frames of 9.000, because my LAN is 1GB. The jumbo frames is really recomended with Hi speed conections (1gb).

Best regards.

Check out this article...

Conclusion
To wrap things up, here are the key points for using jumbo frames on small networks:

Jumbo frames require gigabit Ethernet.
The highest frame size for a connection is the lowest end-to-end maximum frame size.
Gigabit Ethernet Layer 2 switches forward or drop jumbo frames; they don't fragment.
Fragmentation is a Layer 3 (routing) function.
TCP can adjust frame size between different devices. UDP can't.
Using jumbo frames for low latency applications (gaming, VoIP) can be counterproductive
Bigger isn't necessarily better. Jumbo frame sizes need to be matched to device computing power.

Thankīs for the info.

I read some articles, preferred Wiki in my opinion, and make several tests.

Copying a 4.5 Gb iso from DNS-323 to my pc (vista x64), without jumbo frames 10-12Mb/s and with jumbo frames 20-23Mb/s.

I donīt know in other configurations but in my network, jumbo frames makes the difference betwen good LAN HDD or to many slow LAN HDD.

Best regards and sorry for my English.  :P

Try it with 4.5 GB of smaller files - say 1000 or so MP3s - what do you think now?

2.632 items (mp3) in 20,6Gb. Copying with exactly same results: 20-24Mb/s

Best regards.

That's interesting - in my experience (pre 1.06 firmware) the performance took a serious nose dive when files sizes went down - I'm in the middle of some "intensive testing" with 1.06, I'll retest on this aspect and report back.

My onboard adapter doesn't support jumbo frames so I wasn't able to achieve speeds greater than 12MB/s, I'll pick up a DGE-560T this weekend and report back.

Perfect! thankīs for your replies.

Iīm thinking to make test with really smaller files, like a web site backup, with too many gifīs and html documents.

I will post my results tomorrow  ;)

Best regards.

Hi,

I make new test with 4.657 items with 39,6Mb. In this situation only 1Mb/s but total time for copy is around 1 minute.

The last test is make this same copy without JF 9.

Best regards.

Than

I have a question here - I'm guess from your "numeric punctuation" you're not a native english speaker - I'm trying to get a clear picture of your numbers.

4.657 would be four thousand, six hundred ann fifty seven
39.6Mb would be thirty-nine "decimal" six Megabytes or 39600000bytes

Do I have it correct?

There's no need to apologise, your english is way better than my spanish - it's just that you use a different punctuation for numbers making it difficult for me to do a comparison.
