DNS-321 & Mac OSX set up
« on: January 13, 2009, 07:06:10 AM »

Trying to set a 321 up and I'm having several problems:
1. The web management tools are not available at http://dlink-xxxxxx, w/xxxxxx being the last six numbers of the units MAC address. Tried both Safari 3.2.1 and Firefox 3.05, both browserS want to insert the www. after the //. Running Leopard 10.5.6. And since the disc is for Windows only, there is no other choice.

EDIT:-09:30 Got into the web based management tools by using the IP address of the unit in my browser instead of the configuration above (instructions are printed on the back of the 321).  8)

2. I see the network light blink when the unit is pinged using 'Network Utility' but the unit does not show up anywhere in the Network. It also shows up using 'IP Scanner'
Network IP:192.168.15.x, 321 IP:192.168.15.xxx

EDIT:-9:49 Without any drives installed the 321 shows up, as described in my first EDIT, BUT STILL WON'T WORK WITH THE DRIVE INSTALLED, sorry getting a bit frustrated. Back to the drawing board.

3. 1 WD 320GB drive installed but the drive on light does not come on. How should a single drive be configured 0 or 1, does it matter which side it is in the 321?

EDIT:-09:53 Partly answered this with the discovery that the drive I was installing is not compatible. Just ordered 2 WD GP 750 drives, oh well I said this was new to me.....  :-[

This may be a silly question but how do the drives get "power", there are no power sockets for the drives inside the case, all this is new to me  ???

TIA for any help.
John

1) This device does not support friendly name access

2) Where you able to find the IP address of the unit?

3) The drive will get powered when properly inserted into the DNS-321 there are power and data sockets in the back of the unit it will slide and lock into. Please make sure the drive ejecting mechanism is pressed in on the back of the unit when inserting you drives.

2) Where you able to find the IP address of the unit? YES, was finally able to get that using "IP Scanner"[url]http://10base-t.com//url]

Got that figured out as well, Thanks.
