So I have a 2TB Caviar black in the left bay with data and has been working fine for a month now.
It's mapped as z:\\ and is accessible by all computers on my network.

I added a 1TB Caviar Green (not advanced format) to the right bay and formatted ext3.

The unit is firmware v1.09

After formatting, the 2TB is still working fine and data is accessible and I can see volume_2 (The new 1TB) in Advanced\Network Access in in the SMB list.

Also the physical disk info is accurate in Status tab.

When I try to map the drive with easy search, I get an error pop up "failed to map drive".

Help please.

Does no one else have two drives that they want to share data on?

After adding and formatting the second drive, did you grant permissions for users and workgroups to the second drive?  I have always started out with two drives and when I created workgroups and users they were automatically added to both.  I would not assume that this would happen when adding a second disk, but I have never done it.

I've two non raid disks mapped in windows 7. In windows 7, make sure you run Easy Search as administrator (right click -> run as administrator). Anyway, you can always use windows explorer's "map network drive". In any case, you shouldn't have the slightest problem. This is what the nas is supposed to be used for.

Thanks to you both for your replies.

When using Easy Search Utility>Drive Mapping>Volume Name> , both Volume_01 and Volume_2 are listed but when I try to connect the drive I get the error popup "Failed to map drive."

Suggestions?

When you connect to the system using the web interface and select Advanced>Network Access, do you see both disks in the SMB List?  If so, in the Users/Groups column are the values the same for Volume_1 and Volume_2?  Also, is the Read/Write box at the top of the SMB List section contain a check mark?

I do not have a Windows machine available so I can not run the Easy Search Utility.  It was my impression that the ESU helped you find the DNS-323 but after that ESU and the GUI interface were the same.  Unfortunately, without a new disk I can't duplicate your experience.
