Newb: Firmware for C1 hardware?
« on: February 21, 2011, 06:15:09 AM »

Hi,

I just took delivery of a DNS-323 enclosure which I have fitted with 2 x 2TB drives.

I want to be sure that I'm running the latest firmware but the relevant page on the DLink site only lists firmware for A1 or B1 hardware. Mine seems to be C1 hardware. I'm in the Uk if it's relevant.

I'm running FW 1.08 at the moment. Is there a later version for C1 HW?

Thanks :-)

Yes, there's a 1.09 firmware, but it doesn't bring much to the table.
1.10 beta "should" be released in a short while, according to D-Link.

Scaramanga,

Thanks for your reply.

Where do I get the latest FW from then?

If I go here:

http://tinyurl.com/4pxz8qj

there is only A1 and B1 HW listed.

BTW... is this forum actually running on a D-Link NAS box...? The slowest forum I have ever encountered ;-)

Thanks :-)

Firmware: 1.09
Date: 06/16/10

1. Support CTERA Online Backup.

This is the only difference between 1.08 and 1.09

Have also recently bought this in the UK with C1 hardware.

Out of interest, until the 1.10 firmware update comes out, will I be able to run 2x2TB drives in this? Specifically it's the Samsung F4 EcoGreen 2TB 32MB 5400RPM 3.5 inch SATA-II Internal Hard Drive

Nik,

I'm certainly using 2 x 2TB drives in it, set up as a mirrored raid.

I have heard that NAS boxes in general are often not happy with 'Green' drives though... There is a 'Drive compatibility' list on this site somewhere...

Thanks Eric.

At the risk of asking a dumb question, what's the benefit with firmware 1.10 and supporting larger drives,  then? Is this just making them work better, not making them work at all?

Also, second dumb question - whilst I'm waiting for my drives to arrive, can I do any config of my NAS like connecting it to the network and using Easy Search etc?

Nik,

I'm afraid I can't answer your question re the new firmware, I'm new to this box... I'm just copying across 300GB to it in the hope that it's going to be Ok. So far my drives are supported :-)

I wouldn't have thought you could do much to the box until the drives are installed. Give it a go though, I'm sure it won't do any harm. You can always do a reset if something goes bad.

We're still waiting for a complete list of changes/fixes in the 1.10 firmware. 1.10 should, supposedly, add support for Advanced Format drives, among other things.
1.08, if I'm not mistaken added support for 2TB drives.
