Cannot access my DDNS site from LAN but WAN Ok
« on: February 23, 2011, 08:37:52 AM »

Hi Everyone,
I'm having a strange problem that I cannot resolve. I have a Cisco IP camera that I use for security. The camera has DDNS capability. It is connected to a DIR-825 on 2.05 firmware via wireless 802.11G. I have setup a DynDNS account that works well when outside the DIR-825 LAN. For example, when I'm at work I can see the camera just fine using the DynDNS URL. When I'm connected to the DIR-825 LAN, the DynDNS URL fails. I must use the direct 192.168.x.x address which then works perfectly. Ideally I'd like to use the DynDNS URL no matter what network I'm connected to.

As a side not, I have a friend that has a Panasonic wireless IP camera behind a DIR-655 using DynDNS. His DynDNS works fine regardless of what network he's on.

Any suggestions?

Some routers cannot handle loop back. I had this same problem with a windows media server and a camera pc. No ploblems like you if I use local addressing and if I was on the outside calling in. That is the only answer I can think of. Good luck M

Thanks for the reply Morphy. From your post, I have since learned that the DIR-825 does not support a feature called Loopback NAT which is required if you are hosting a website behind the router. Strangely this feature is supported on some Dlink routers and not on others.
