Hi, I don't get browing but I am conndected to my home network.  I found my IP address and then did a Ping and found out I sent out 4 packet's and received 0, so I got Four Failures!  But I checked the device and it said it's works properly and I see the light flickering from the adapter.  How do I fix this!

If you connect to your router, can you get online? What drivers are you using? Please ensure you have the latest drivers.

No I cannot get browsing when I connect to my router, and yes I have the latest drivers.  My computer says I have a connection but just no browsing.

OK lets eliminate the adapter. Sorry I wasn't clear on my last post.. If you connect hardwired to you router can you get online? When you're connected wired or wireless can you ping a website like google.com?

hmmm... So you can't connect to the internet even if you're hardwired to the router. I see you mentioned you're using a linksys router.

What is the IP address of the router?
What is the IP address of your hardwired PC?
If you connect you PC directly to the modem can you get online?

The router is 192.168.1

The PC connected to the router is 192.168.100

I tried to connect to the modem hardwired but it didn't work either.

Ok this is pobably going to be a long process and I'm going to need a couple more pieces of information.. Who is your service provider and what type of connection do have cable or DSL? What OS are you running?

If you have cable lets continue..

Power off modem and router
- ensure your Ethernet cables are good
- connect one Ethernet cable from your modem to the WAN port of your router
- connect another Ether cable from a LAN port ofr your router to a port on your PC (Please make sure you PC is set to obtain an IP address automatically)

Power up Modem first
- wait 1 minute
- power up router
- wait another minute

open command prompt
- type in ipconfig /release hit enter then type in ipconfig /renew hit enter
- If you pull an IP address try to ping the gateway
- try to ping 4.2.2.2
- try to ping google.com

After doing this what are your results?

Ok, I have Cable broadband from Cablevision.

I run Vista on the problematic computer, and Xp on the hard wired computer.  Keep in mind that the computer I use to use the internet is also Vista which works just fine.

I pinged the gateway 192.168.1 and had 100% loss

I pinged 4.2.2.2 with 0% loss

I pinged google.com with 0% loss

so I only lost when I pinged the gateway.

I don't know if this matters but the problematic computer is using the same IP address as the hardwired computer (192.168.100).  However before I did the release/renew the problematic computer's IP address was 192.168.132

I would try to set all your PC's to obtain an IP address automatically and use the DHCP reservation feature in the router. Also do you have any firewalls and anti-virus softwares enabled?

An IP Address is 32 bits long and represented in dotted decimal by four octets.

I see only 3 in all of your posts about your routers IP.

It is most likely 192.168.1.1, try pinging that if you haven't been.

ok, I ping'ed 192.168.1.1 and all is good.  0% loss.

I have already disabled the Firewall in Vista.  My pc's were already set to obtain IP automaticly.

damn, I should of ordered my Hp with the preinstalled wireless adapter, instead I now have this F'ing D-link!!!  I am sooooo frustrated you have no idea!

If you can ping google.com and have no other anomalies then it is most likely a browser issue.  You are trapped in offline mode or something.  Have you tried a different browser?

If connected hard-wired you are doing no better the issue is clearly not in your wireless adapter, now let's get you on-line.

From the command prompt if you type "telnet google.com 80" what happens?

it just says: "telnet" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I am sorry, I had missed the fact you are running Vista.

Vista does not install telnet by default as they believe it to be a security concern.

All that test was for is so I could show you that a HTTP connection to goggle is possible with your connection.  A successful test would have shown a blank screen then it would give you a bad request error if you try to type anything, an unsuccessful connection would have just reported back timed out or connection closed by remote host.


On to the more relevant question I asked...

Have you tried a different browser?
