Thoughts on 1.10 BETA
« on: March 06, 2011, 11:04:56 AM »

I just updated two boxes to the 1.10 BETA. My media lists seem to load faster when streaming to my PS3, however I can't seem to view any photos in this manner (will see if a refresh fixes this). Also, when navigating media folders on my PS3 I notice that any spaces get replaced by "%20". For example the directory:

"Video\Pirates of The Caribbean" shows up "Pirates of The Caribbean" until I actually navigate into the folder, at which point it reads "Pirates%20of%20the%20Caribbean". This renaming occurs for folders only. File names with spaces remain unchanged.

This did not happen in FW 1.09. I don't like it. I did NOT reset back to factory settings, I know I should have, but it hasn't seemed necessary thus far.

Any thoughts?

Life seems to go better when I reset to factory defaults and do the setup manually.  I would rather spend the time to retype the information and know any issues are not cause by corrupted settings.  My environment is not complex so I only have to watch for typos.

If you do the reset and your issues no longer exist, you may not be positive the reset made the difference but you definitely don't nave issues.

I will get to it eventually. Right now I just want to know if it's supposed to "%20" my folder names when using a PS3.

I also noticed that it takes much, much longer to refresh the media server.

Have you had a chance to reset and retest this? I will be verifying this today with our test PS3 to see if it can be duplicated.

I am a new poster but have been reading lots of posts.
Since upgrading to 1.10 I have had nothing but trouble with PS3 streaming.
I have the % intead of space problem 'when' my PS3 can read files,  the dns323 will show up as a media device on the XMB every time but when I try to navigate to a folder I get 'no title' or 'no file'.
I have reset my nas several times and tried various setups with poor results.
I have managed to view files after one reset but since adding more files from my PC,  I have not been able to access from my PS3 at all.
Very Frustrating and I hope this can be resolved before the full release.

I found one not desired feature in Release notes (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=5485.0):
NAS now supports AutoIP (ie 169.254.x.x) instead of defaulting to 192.168.0.32

My UseCase is:
I have WiFi router with 100MB Ethernet ports with enabled DHCP
DNS-323 connected to one of router ports
In case if I need to transfer large files to/from my laptop I disconnect DNS-323 from WiFi router and plug Ethernet cable from DNS-323 directly into my laptop. Laptop Ethernet port configured as: if DHCP server is not found - use ip: 192.168.0.102, default gateway: 192.168.0.32
As result in my laptop I have 2 network one (default) with working WiFi, other for large files transfer.

As a solution I suggest add into web interface in DHCP configuration additional radiobox :
if DHCP server is not respond:
(*) use static IP: 192.168.0.32
( ) use auto ip: 169.254.x.x

How I can remove 169.254.x.x feature?
(I think to create sh script /ffp/start/directip.sh which do this fix).

@D-Link Multimedia:

Yes, my "%20" space problem remains after a factory reset and manual entry of all previous settings. I have also noticed that in at least one instance, newly added files go to the end of a PS3 media list regardless of file name. Example:

1.avi
2.avi
4.avi
3.avi

in where 3.avi was added to this folder after the last media server refresh. I know that 1.09 would put such files in their proper numerical order.

Any chance of fixing the alpha-numeric sort order while you guys are in there? 1, 10, 11, and 12 are listed before 2.

Couple of minor points -

The power LED - seemed to go off when the drives powered down and come on when they powered up, great. It seems to be hit and miss, I later noticed that the LED was on but I hadn't accessed the NAS. Logged in and did a 'save' somewhere (I need to look into where) it then went off after the preset time.

Renaming root folder - changing from 'mp3' to 'MP3', hit return and it reverts to 'mp3'. Renaming to 'MP32' is accepted, then rename to 'MP3' is also ok.

Seems a bit flakey I must admit, and I'm only using it as an external drive.
At least the fan isn't running continuously.

This isn't new in 1.10. It's something to do with Windows being case insensitive and Linux being the opposite. It doesn't register a change. I don't think this is strictly a DNS-323 issue.

The LED coming on isn't new either. Some things won't trigger the LED properly, like a hard drive SMART test. Network access (a shortcut to a share on your desktop for example), a FTP authentication, perhaps scheduled downloads- will all trigger the LED.

Was just wondering if anyone else has noticed how long a refresh of the media server takes under 1.10. I'm at 24% completion after 30 mins, while under 1.09 it took less than 10 minutes total. I'm sharing a folder with not quite 2.5TB of video in it; up until now I have been impressed with how quickly this machine refreshes the media server.

Combined with the fact that I have to refresh almost every day, this could become quite an annoyance.

Thanks for that.

I'm also baffled about this -
I tried the torrent client, works a treat. I copied a folder from 'completed' to a laptop, tried to delete the 323 folder and it wouldn't delete but it deleted ok from the wired desktop.
(i'm easily baffled).

Not sure about that one, coincidence perhaps? Perhaps the file was in use on the machine that you were trying to delete it on (i.e. a folder window was open or something).

Tis a bit odd, I rebooted the 323 and retried. Same result, had to use the desktop.
Thanks for your input, Jamie.

Was just wondering if anyone knew what version of Pure-FTPd ships with 1.10? Maybe someone with funplug would be able to looks this up for me? Attempting FTP over TLS/SSL.
