DIR-655 Shareport Utility Gives a Firewall message
« on: January 16, 2009, 08:04:31 AM »

I am running Windows XP Professional. When I launch my shareport utility it gives a message

D-Link
Firewall
TCP Out Port: 80; 2005
UDP Out Port: 9303

I have enabled the firwall but I have enabled the entries Shareport Network USB Utility and Shareport Network USB utility UDP port as exceptions (to pass firewall).

I have a similar config for my other laptop which runs on Windows XP Home and it connects the harddrive/printer through shareport utility perfectly.

So your Firewall works, that's for sure.

In Vista the Windows firewall exceptions are created automatically. The settings are:
Shareport exe full access (Any computer)
Shareport UDP port 9303 (any computer)

Check if they are allowed to connect to "any computer"

I checked and they are allowed to connect to any computer and those entries are present and the checkbox is "checked" for exceptions still it gives me a firewall error. This does not happen with my other laptop which runs Windows Home XP. Can you please help?

describe the firewall error please. Is it the Windows firewall message or a message from a antivirus/firewall from an other vendor?

Just checking: Do you have UPnP enabled in Windows and on the router?

This is a Windows issue, not a specific Shareport issue. Have you checked the Windows defender log for any blocked startup drivers?

I tried calling the technical support and they have no clue what's going on. Any othre options I can try, else I might have to retun the router.

Trust me, it's a Windows issue. Can you give a reason why it should be router issue? PLease try running the app with the Firewall OFF and see what happens.

I tried with firewall turned off. I still gives the same firewall message on the wireless network. If I wire it (connect it to lan gigabit) it does not give the firewall message but it does not connect to the router either. I have Windows XP Professional  service pack 2 running while on my other laptop its Windows XP Home service pack 3 could that be the issue?
