Multiple Vlan on Multiple Switch
« on: January 17, 2009, 03:03:14 AM »

Scenerio:
I need to implement vlans on a 3 storey building.
Storey 1 : vlan1 / vlan2 / vlan3
Storey 2 : vlan4 / vlan5 / vlan6
Storey 3 : vlan7 / vlan8 / vlan9

I intend to use stackable switch for each story like DES-3550.

How do I go about to configure each manage switch?

At times, I would need the vlans to "talk" to other vlans on other switch.  Eg. vlan2 talking to vlan8.  I understand I need a core routing switch.  Please advice me a core switch and how do I configure the core switch.

I am also curious if it is possible to implement the bandwidth for each node on internet bandwidth (not LAN).

Many thanks!

It seems that you want to configure vlans on the switch

I suggest you to log in the switch configuration therough the hyperterminal with baudrate 9600

enter the following commands:

>config vlan default del 2-50      " this will delete port number 2-50 from default vlan "
>create vlan vlan1 tag 10          " Vlan1 is the vlan name and 10 is the VID "
>config vlan vlan1 add untagged 2-10 " this will add ports from 2 to 10 in vlan1"
>config vlan vlan1 add tagged 11 " this will tag port number 11 on the switch"
> save

Follow these commands for each vlan and required number of ports .

It also seems that you require inter vlan routing which wont be possible in this switch since this is a L2 switch.

You can go for a 33xx or 36xx or 38xx series switch for the L3 features.

Or if this 3 month old post hasn't already done so the best answer is to contact Sales so we can build him a proper network 1 800 326 1688 ext. 5434.
