I am want to buy a HDD 3TB, DNS-323 support this size and if yes what model?

OK, but . . .

 - will the 323 *ever* support discs bigger than 2 TB? 

 - if not, and before I ditch my 323s,
 has D-Link got a similar unit that will now, or in the future, support bigger discs than 2 TB?

None of the NAS drives on the market today support >2TB HDDS, as far as I know. In theory, this may be addressed by a firmware update.

If this was critical for you, why did you buy it in the first place?

QNAP definitely supports 3 tb hard drives from Seagate and Hitachi, this is on QNAP's supported list, not the users list.  I would assume that Synology does as well.

Biscotte, get out of D-Link while you can, for not much more than D-Link, you get MUCH quicker transfer rates plus regular firmware updates and many more things from QNAP or Synology.

I bought my first DNS-323s and populated them with 500 gig drives.   Over time, I have upgraded these discs (put in bigger and bigger) as needed.  They work well for what I want them for, with simple setup routine. 
However, I am getting towards topping out on these, with over half of the discs up at 2 TB.  Replacing say 1.5 with 2.0 TB will not solve my impending storage problems. 

Choices include: 
 - bigger drives  2+tb
 - more DNS-323 units or similar (I have five and with more units to backup to, the set up will get messy plus system will run out of drive letters)
 - another manufacturer and bigger discs

Tried synology 210j.  synology seems intent on mirroring everything, although there are options and cludges to get around this.  Negatives include:
 - incessant passwords and the like for my protection (!)
 - took me a week to get two separate drives (almost) recognised
 - setup routine programmed by a chimpanzee
 - general awkwardness and
 - no faster (OK marginal and my system backs up overnight anyway)

As Dlink was not mentioned on the 3TB supported list, it looks like Qnap research this weekend . . .

The 2TB ceiling is very frustrating considering the ever increasing HDD capacities.   Just last week I read that Samsung is releasing a 4TB HDD this year.

My first NAS was a 323 and it did the trick for a few months until i got sick of advertised features not working and the slowness(which is lake os research on my part)

I personally have 2 QNAP's and love them, never had any complaints, firmware updates approx every 2 months with everything running reliable and always new features added.  I can't remember the last time
D-Link released a working firmware, everything is always beta.  Have fun doing your research and hopefully you will become a happy QNAP customer.  They are more then the Synology's but i think worth every penny:)

According to "Dan from D-Link" there is no upper limit to storage volumes.
Of course he's selling the product, so may be over stating.

I presume it is a firmware limitation.
