I am posting it here since I don't see an area for Networking Cards such as the one I am currently running, DGE-550T. I am also running the DIR-655 Router(which doesn't seem to be the issue). Here is my question/problem, running Windows 7 Ultimate, the network connection status icon in the task bar shows an "X" as if there is no connection, even though there really is a connection. I have tried reinstalling the drivers for the DGE-550T card, and even upgraded all firmware to the latest firmware for the DIR-655 Router(firmware version 1.35na) none of which seems to work. My PC isn't the only one on the router, but mine is the only one running a D-Link Networking Card. All connected PC's have a form, mostly integrated, of 10/100/1000 Networking by makers other than D-Link. So why is it that my PC running a D-Link Networking card being connected to a D-Link router is the only one that show's incorrect icon status. Also, how would I go about fixing this issue. It's not a matter of causing a problem with internet connection or anything like that, but it would be nice to see the connection status display the way it should so I don't have to wonder if I am connected or not. Quick glance instead of having to check Network connection status.

Do the onboard wired connections work with the 655 router?

What wireless mode are you using? Try using Single mode G to test with out any security then try with security then Mixed mode G and N.

Yes, all onboard networks work perfect... I have already had it from single(between all the different ones) to mixed wifi. I have no passwords(security) enable since I am using MAC Address Filtering, so the security shouldn't be an issue. Not sure as to how the wifi settings would affect me being wired though. I am the only one that is running a networking card(Ethernet), all other connections are either onboard(Ethernet) or wifi devices such as iPhone. only 2 PC's, both running the same version of windows(windows 7 Ultimate) and both wired. Yet, mine is the only PC showing incorrect status. I have other PC's connected for brief moments at a time while I work on them and some have also had windows 7, while others, windows XP, and yet still same deal. They all show the correct status. My best guess would be the drivers for the NIC that I am running (DGE-550T) yet funny thing is, I am running the latest and greatest drivers. Is there a fix? Maybe a new driver release could cure this? This is a fairly new card(as in, it is 10/100/1000 and no more than a couple years from release date) I see no reason at this point to no longer release updated drivers if this is the case.

Try going to the advanced propeties settings of the adapter and change the speed/duplex settings to see if it fixes the icon issue. 

If it is connecting without any real issues, just set the icon in the taskbar to hide and you won't see the red x.

You stated that all onboard networks work correctly. Question: How many Ethernet Ports with the D-Link Card installed are on your computer?

But, he might have more than one NIC in that computer and the icon might be representative of another NIC, not the D-Link one. My daughter made that mistake on her laptop until I pointed it out to her that the icon showing no connection was for her ethernet connection, not the wireless one.

Thanks! That is what I am trying to bring out.

He states that he is online, but the icon shows that he is offline. That may not be for the icon that he is online with.

Very good point to both thecreator and schmieg, I have one installed addon NIC, but I do have an onboard older nVidia 10/100 that has been disabled in the system properties and does not show in the Network Connections Adapter Settings. The system is really only seeing one card because of the onboard being disabled, I had come across that very issue in reading everywhere else and is a very valid point, but shouldn't be the issue in my case since the system only lists just the one D-Link NIC.

I atleast gave your idea a shot, but no luck, I changed the speed/duplex from auto, to all the different ones, 1000ful, 100ful, 100half, 10ful, 10half, and back to auto, none of which worked as far as the icon. The point of the icon isn't just that it is bother-sum to me, it is a matter that if my connection really does go down, I would like to know it right when it happens, the icon allows me to know if I am or if I am not connected without having to find out when a page won't load or what have you. So the simple fact of disabling the icon might be something that the average user wouldn't mind doing, but I run my machine on my network not just for myself, but for others on my network for file sharing, com server, so on. I need to know if there is a problem going on, is it that I am no longer connected, do I have a network problem. No icon means I have to take a further look rather than looking for a split sec. to see if I am no longer on the network.

You're probably correct, but it wouldn't hurt to check the settings of the D-Link NIC on its properties page to make sure that it is set to show the icon in the task bar. It doesn't necessarily do that by default.

It looks as though this option has been disabled with windows 7, or atleast they moved it and I cannot find it, lol. The area where "show network connection when connected" normally is, is now a description area for "this connection uses the following:". Maybe someone could point me in the right direction. Other than that, it looks as though windows 7 is automatic atleast when it comes to having only one network device.

Next time you reboot the machine go right into the BIOS and disable the onboard NIC there.  That way Windows doesn't even know about it.

I think that since you disabled the onboard one in the Device Manager that it may be the one that is making the red x appear, if you disable in the BIOS it won't even show up in the Device Manager.
